4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it
It's true that nothing really "happens." What I love about these turn-of-the-century San Francisco novels by Norris is the dead-on detailed glimpse of mores and society and the rigors of daily life at the time. If you don't revel in domestic minutiae of a bygone time, then no, I don't think the moral lessons (always gentle) are enough to stick it out. But I love it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kept waiting for something to happen. It never did.
I read the entire book waiting for something to happen. It never did. The only interesting thing that ever happened to this woman was only eluded to and then only WELL after the fact. There are many worthwhile classics to read. This is NOT one of them.
