Benvenuto di Giovanni's exquisite painting, The Adoration of the Magi, depicts one of the most beloved legends of Christmas. This painting is from the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Three great kings or Magi bearing gifts have traveled from far away in the East, in search of the Christ child whose coming was foretold to them. The Magi follow a star that leads them to Bethlehem. There they find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger because there was no room at the inn for the family. Beginning December 1, each window opens in sequence to represent the twenty-four days of the advent calendar. Discover symbolic details of the painting that tell the story of the Magi. The calendar is three paneled with the gold side panels folded back. Each one of the 24 windows is located on the side panels. When folded the calendar measures 9 x 12. It comes in a resealable poly bag.
