Reasonably good novel of Martha's mission during the year that never was,

Obviously this novel only makes sense after seeing the end of the third season of the new Doctor Who. This fills in the tale of Martha's year long wandering around the world telling people about the Doctor and his wonderful stories. In a year with genocide and technological change with the Master running the world and the Toclafane on the loose, Martha's mission is so wonderfully simple. Well written novel for the Dr. Who fan.

This was an interesting read. As another reviewer said, it doesn't make much sense unless you've finished watching the 2007 season of Doctor Who. It explains Martha's travels during the Year that Never Was. I found myself wishing there were more stories.

I was really looking forward to reading this, since I expected that Dan Abnett would do a great job of filling in stories of Martha's year of traveling the Earth. But I feel a bit disappointed: there is less substance to the story than it could have had. I understand that it is a collaboration of several authors, which accounts for the slightly different styles of the segments, but those authors could have been more imaginative in their ideas of what happened to Martha, rather than flashbacks to her adventures with the Doctor.

I thought that this book was really great. It does tell you what happened in the Year that never was. For a Doctor Who book it was really great if you love Season 3 just because this book gives you a different point of view.

I thought that this was a great Doctor Who novel. I enjoyed every bit of it. I would recommend that you watch the third series of Doctor Who in order for you to understand the plot. It's basically about the year that never happened. Martha did exactly what the Doctor told her to do and that was to travel across the world and to tell everyone stories about the doctor and what he has done. Later on Martha gets captured and she finds away out. But the story brings you to the beginning of the episode the Last of the Time Lords. If you love Doctor Who and the novels as i do this is one that you need to read!

The Master takes over the earth and the Doctor has a mission for Martha to do...and it'll take her a whole year. Ever wonder what Martha did during that long year? Find out in this book where you'll read new adventures (albeit short ones) she had with the Doctor. From the start, I thought it would be this huge book with plenty of stories...but I was a little disappointed when I found out this is the same length as the other Doctor Who books. Not that I'm knocking this book, its a great read but I thought it would be more than what it is.

This is actually one of my favorite Dr. Who books even though Martha Jones was probably the least interesting companion for me. All that love struck silliness. This book is actually a series of short stories written in a collaborative process and strung together to create something like a complete novel. It shows, as the title indicates, the adventures of Martha, as she traveled the world spreading the message on how to defeat the Master as portrayed in the final episodes of Season 3. Very clever. Very little presence of the Doctor of course, except by reference to what is happening in the TV episodes while Marhta is traveling the world. I wish more of the Doctor Who and Torchwood books would be directly related to the TV series like this one is. There are many backstories that could be portrayed in this manner.
