and don't purchase this book. It's not even worthy of one star!

The book is primarily about the conceited, bratty and clueless author. Allow me to elaborate on this:

- conceited: repetetive to the extreme, the author again and again underlines her own and her master's extreme beauty, and how all other people they encounter seem to fall short of this standard. Regardless of whether this might be true (it's not, you can check for yourself at the authors homepage) it's certainly boring.

- bratty: although the author at times admit to being "in training", she nevertheless more often than not portrays to be the perfect slave in her own mind. In truth she reveals more or less behaviour that would never have been accepted over time from any of the Masters I have befriended over years in the lifestyle, and in any circumstance been severly punished in the short term to discourage the same behaviour. I think she's being punished once in the book - for lying - after having hidden photos that in her mind does not reflect her true beauty! (sic!)
Extreme focus on herself is the sole reason why numerous encounters are wrecked.

- clueless: don't kid yourselves folks. This book is about swinging. I assume not even newcomers to the BDSM-scene would find very much related to the BDSM-lifestyle here. The "slave" has little clue about what being a slave indeed entails. I will not even comment on the "master" - let's just say that the "slave" in question here edited and approved the slave-rules herself. Anyone interested in a serious BDSM-relationship would be grandly deluded about the realities should they consider this book a guide.

"It's not easy being a hot-blooded Cuban slave." Enchanted from her first meeting with the masterful Stinger, M sheds her inhibitions with the speed of lightning to become an enthusiastic exhibitionist, eager devotee of oral and anal sex, and willing subject of bondage and discipline. She does resist some delicious opportunities for bisexual play, but warms to the possibilities eventually. She also struggles mightily with her intense jealousy as Stinger exposes her to regular swinging parties (despite her own appetrite for hot black men). The sex scenes are nearly nonstop, superbly graphic, and passionately unashamed. A superb tale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can I leave less than 1 star?, April 2, 2006
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
This book is utter tripe. If you're interested in BDSM relationships, find another and don't waste your money. It has nothing to do with a realistic m/s relationship, and frankly, the woman, Misassa, is not a slave, she's arrogant, narcissitic and as pompous as they come. The "slave rules" she quotes were ripped right out of a piece I read on the net 12 years ago.

Unless you're a complete masochist, leave this book alone. It's painful to your mind.

2.0 out of 5 stars You're So Vain, December 12, 2006
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
I purchased this book last weekend. I was really looking forward to reading it, but I must say I was very disappointed. Missa's constant comments about how beautiful she is, combined with her nasty and mean spirited comments about everyone else really nauseated me. Enough already! We get it. Also, most of the the book is devoted to swinging, which I really didn't understand because Missa does nothing in the book but whine about how much she hates everything about swinging. This book was painful to read, even for a masochist. Do yourself a favor and flog yourself instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars thank goodness for refunds, July 14, 2005
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
This book sucked, it was repetative, tedious, and completely turned me off from bdsm/swinging, etc. The author is pitiful and easily tricked. The editing is horrible and the writing is cliched and nothing special. She couldnt make her experiences sound anything but seedy and skanky, then goes on about love and how beautiful everything is. One more thing, the author is very cocky and full of herself. Very unlikable, and a bit snobby.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pompous poof, April 11, 2006
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
The author's constant "I am better and more beautiful" than anyone else gets cloying.

She seems to think that Dominance/submission consists solely of swinging (which she always spells with a capital S--why?)

For many, many pages she can't achieve a successful swinging relationship--everyone else is fat, ugly, impotent--which to the reader (suffering through her attitude, just like her partners) is not much of a surprise.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked it..., June 13, 2006
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
I liked the way that Maria hit home on some if the ill feelings that one can experience in the swingers scene ... I am unsure why "swing" is capitalized throughout the book though. Some of the comments that she makes about other peoples appearances were a little harsh and made me feel a little self conscious myself. I do not think it is a good idea to enter into the swingers scene continually thinking that you are the best in the room or have the feeling of competition continually on your mind. Thus...coming from experience. I also did not like the way that the BDSM seemed to be centered on swinging. I was hoping for a little more actual BDSM. I did enjoy the book nonetheless.

2.0 out of 5 stars mediocre, June 24, 2005
This review is from: The Story of M: A Memoir (Paperback)
the only positive aspect of this book, worth mentioning, is the angle ms. pita chose to write about...an account of a year in her real life of 'slave training', that's an interesting point of view i've never come across before...but having said that, i definately wouldnt recommend this book to anyone who has never tried swinging but wants to...if i was an aspiring swinger this book would discourage me so badly...the thing is basically one swinging event after another (which gets a little boring and tedious) but each situation seems to end in some problem, with someone or everyone pissed about something.
besides that, the author keeps repeating thats she's not a mindless doormat of a slave...but from what i gather is this chick is pretty much brainwashed by her 'master' and the bdsm culture, in that her 'master' keeps telling her the reason they are allowed to have sex w/ other people is that it strengthens their bond. the author keeps repeating this as if she's still trying to convince herself it's not just a ploy of her 'master's' to have whatever he wants sexually. i was open to her thoughts about this, but she beat that out of me with her desperate repitition...she even believed her 'master' when he convinced her that he had been looking at her the whole time he was having sex w/ another woman, but she just needed glasses is why it looked like he was ignoring her.
as the book goes on, the author seems to get more and more cocky, constantly going on about how beautiful she is and how much more appealing she is to the women her man was doing (again trying to make herself feel better about that). she even notes an event where a man who was having sex w/ her couldnt continue because her beauty was too intense for him that he couldnt stay erect. yeah.
she reassures us repeatedly that swingers and bdsm-ers are not jealous or catty people, yet every instance she describes mentions someone getting b*tchy and annoyed about the situation, unsettled by the situation. often times the author herself is the one freaking out, and hautily trying to make her partners jealous of her beauty and her man, then telling the reader swingers are situated in their swapping.
there are constant mispellings, one instance where she protects a girl's name, then gives it away (who proof-read this thing?), and 3 times she goes 'my master is a scientist so...' it's like yes i remember he is a scientist, stop trying to impress us. these things, along with the often indirect and muddled writing, made this book, that i was so open to when reading the first few chapters, seem so shoddy.

and i just can't get past the lameness of calling someone Master...

I have read several of Maria Isabel Pita's books and find that she certainly is one of today's hottest erotica writers, hands down. This book certainly is a revelation and perhaps a little opportunity for the reader to walk through the mid of the author .... Yes, the book I believe is very much oushed as a master slave memoir but for me I think it's really an incredible account, the best ever, of what the swing scene is all about in Miami and Brazil ..... Those readers that may consider that life style would be highly encouraged to read this bok first to understand what probably goes through the mind of the woman in the swing couple ... OK so all men are dogs, I admit it ....

This is a very sophomoric attempt at erotica proper. This is porn. I like both, but I know the difference. She was obviously paying attention in English 101 when they covered simile and metaphor, but she missed cliché day. It also seems clear that she missed the significance of the title of "The Story of O" when she used the same title but substituted the first letter of her first name. She has read the book several times; she borrows quite a bit of the language. My guess is that this was published for the "shock value" of the language which will always attract some, no matter how bad, instead of any real talent. She may be a submissive, but she's not a writer.
