To call this 'The Story of Nigeria' would be a disservice because this book is only part of the story of Nigeria but in the light of few other unbiased historical accounts, it can be permitted to share the title

The author has provided some very rich information of some topics while much information is missing on other vitals bits

First the good bits, the account of the yoruba wars is documented in this book better than any other out there. The decline of the OYO empire, the dislike of the ijebus by other tribes which is still prevalent today, the annexation of Ilorin to the North are very well presented. The earlier history of the north is also documented and several pages have been given to the efik, niger deltans and teh Benin Kingdom. I suspect the benin kingdom holds the key to a richer and deeper understanding of the history of the old western Nigeria

the not too good bits: very little is mentioned about Igbo origins, this may have been because this information is not available but it is a glaring omission for which no excuse was given by the author...what happened in Igboland between 1500-1800? if anyone has a book that addresses this, it would be good to suggest it..

Also there could have been some more information about the clans who came from Benin republis...the Dahomeys of whom Yoruba and indeed Nigerian history cannot be complete without a mention of..

all in all a great book
