4.0 out of 5 stars The sttory of the Real Bulldog
If you are interested in the history of the Bulldog, want to know more about the recreated and natural breeds or just want a book full of great pictures then this is the book for you. Ken Mollet has not let his love for his own recreated Bulldogge breed ( the Victorian Bulldogge) interfere with his discussion of other Bulldogge and Bulldog breeds. A Great Book!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Biased
The book was written for a ten year old to read. It was only 160 pages of large print and full page pictures. There weren't many facts but only opinions and speculation. Not much substance. There isn't much written about the actual english bulldog or why it was really bred for it to be the way it is today. The authors are constantly putting down the bulldog breed and...

5.0 out of 5 stars superb and straight, May 19, 2004
This review is from: The Story of the Real Bulldog (Hardcover)
This book is informative, fun, and easy to read without being over simplistic.
This is an exhaustive, intelligent history of the breed, and an up to date record of it's development. It details why the modern KC registered bulldogs are failing, and even points to where the failing begins and at what date! Every vet in world should back the Victorian bulldog over the modern dog... and the KC bulldog club even refused a contest, in fitness and health and well being between the two breeds. K. Mollett and R. Jenkins went out on a limb to bring us this book, and everyone who loves bull breeds should have a copy, or at least have read one from the librabry! Ken Molletts work is rightly praised, and his ethics are beyond reproach. A well written, entertaining book, by real bulldoggers... for bulldoggers. Of course if you like your dogs so inbred they can't move, breath, or give birth naturally, and if you beleive the kennel clubs always know the best dogs, and what's best for dogs, then you might just be offended!

There isn't much written about the actual english bulldog or why it was really bred for it to be the way it is today. The authors are constantly putting down the bulldog breed and trying to make the new recreated "victorian bulldogge" breed sound much better in order to sell them in England. If this new breed which they are trying to "push" isn't accepted by internationally famous organizations like the AKC, why again is it supposed to be a better breed? If you are a bulldog enthusiast or breeder, you will be offended by reading this book. Not recommended!
