4.0 out of 5 stars useful tool for the series
this is a useful tool for the series. it tests the same level of understanding of each chapter as the questions suggested in the activity book does. neither requires the child to recall every single detail. it does not seem to be necessary, as the activity book covers the same level of question plus provides many additional activities), but when you homeschool if you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly disappointed
I was very disappointed with this book. I am no scholar by any means but I cannot teach my children the personal beliefs of this woman. Which what makes up most of this book. She teaches bible stories as historical fact, and pushes her opinions as factual. I will be returning this workbook along with the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars useful tool for the series, January 7, 2008
This review is from: The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Ancient Times: Tests and Answer Key (Vol. 1) (Story of the World) (v. 1) (Paperback)
this is a useful tool for the series. it tests the same level of understanding of each chapter as the questions suggested in the activity book does. neither requires the child to recall every single detail. it does not seem to be necessary, as the activity book covers the same level of question plus provides many additional activities), but when you homeschool if you like to incorporate written tests, then this makes it easy.

on the other hand, if you are trying to encourage deeper understanding, i think the activity book goes farther, as the questions are open ended and the child has the opportunity to expand upon his answers, and the parent can expand his questioning appropriately to encourage recall. the tests do not do this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just right for us, October 10, 2008
This review is from: The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Ancient Times: Tests and Answer Key (Vol. 1) (Story of the World) (v. 1) (Paperback)
This book is working out perfectly as a supplement to Story of the World Vol. 1. I bought the Activity Book as well, but am not using it, as it seems geared towards really young kids. My 5th grader finds the tests neither too hard or too easy. He can do the tests on his own without help with additional directions from me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, December 19, 2009

I think this history curriculum is great because it follows the classical model of introducing history chronologically and it challenges the students to reiterate the information that they have heard in their own words, thus making history their own. I also like the fact that the history projects can double as art instruction. I really love the additional reading book list available for each chapter. I typed up the list for each chapter and gave it to my public library. Each week, they pull the books for me and all I have to do is go and pick them up. My kids have a great time reading the books that are on their level and then I read the more difficult to read books to them. I have also given them some of the harder books to them to challenge them and it has increased their reading ability because the books keep their interest. It is amazing to go places and hear refereneces made in other people's conversation about things we have been studying in history because the kid's eyes light up and they say, "Mamma! We know all about Tutankhamen!" or whatever it is we happen to be studying at the time. I wholehartedly recommend this curriculum.

This program is great for all ages, we have the question book and the activities book as well. I am using it on my children 4 through 8. My 8 year old is a 5th grade level. All of my children love to hear the stories. The older two do the questions and some times the extended reading while the younger two love the Map and coloring pages. They recently asked about future lessons and when I explained in four years we would repeat the lessons they were thrilled to find out they would learn it more in-depth the next time. We recomend this program to all homeschooling families.

My child likes the easy to read format and the additional activities this book offers. This is one of her favorite subjects. As a parent, I appreciate how simple the lesson plans are to use. A good book for grade schoolers.
