1.0 out of 5 stars A Waste of money
I'm amazed that someone, who is clearly such a bad artist, writes a book about the art of drawing Storyboards. A waste of money.

... I'm an illustrator myself with 23 years of storyboarding experience. This book is an excellent tool for both the novice and the seasoned, old grizzled vet like me. For the novice it explains the process, offers guides to how to approach a board, what's important, staging, mood, the different types of boards markets, billing, promotion... the whole gammut. For the vets, it jogs our memory. We tend to fall into patterns of how we do things and it gets comfortable and perhaps a bit common place... or even sloppy. The book reminded me that there's more than one right way or any single solution and maybe the 1st and easiest way isn't the best. There are some great samples of different styles of boards from different artists and a good focus on thinking before drawing. It's a good, usefull addition to my ever expanding library and anyone in the field or wanting to be in the field should consider getting a copy. Make sure it's the 2nd edition... a far more extensive and complete book than the earlier edition. (I now have both)

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful recource!, November 9, 2006

I was impressed by the amount of information they were able to cram into this book. I don't think that there was one aspect of storyboarding that was left out. It covers the techniques, tools, and methods artistically as well as how to approach it from a business stand point. This book has an overwhelming amount of examples(most of which are full color) of storyboard panels, useable forms, and reference. The recource section is invaluable to anyone in the field. It covers literally every aspect that I had a question about. I highly recommend this book!

I'm reading this book while taking a storyboard class. It is a great companion to the class. The pages are fun and glossy, full of storyboard examples. It is easy to read and the chapters whiz by which is great for a visual person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good explanation of the bigger picture, July 2, 2001

This review is from: Storyboards, Second Edition: Motion In Art (Paperback)
This book addresses several subjects that are all relevant to individuals who want to make a living from, or involving, storyboards. It is fully illustrated by a variety of artists, a feature that is important for up-and-coming artists to have exposure to. There are many diverse styles of illustration out there, but successful storyboard artists all share an awareness of certain principles of filmmaking, that this book also covers. By virtue of its many explanations and illustrations, it presents a broad and clear description of the business of storyboarding. People who want to pursue this field need to know that being able to draw is not the exclusive interest of a production artist, but also cinematic conventions and marketing of their product. I recommend this book to my students who express interest in the field, and for further exploration of specific concentrations I suggest "Directing: Shot by Shot" by Katz, and "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by Stan Lee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for the aspiring artist, May 13, 2010

Simple to read and understand, very straight forward book with plenty of color illustrations. I recommend this for any who want to learn the elements of storyboarding and animation. Even if you don't plan on becoming a layout or storyboard artist, it will give you insight into forming strong compositional designs.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best storyboard book has gotten better!, October 26, 2006
I thought Mark's second edition storyboard book was a great resource for every aspect of the storyboarding business, but the third edition is even more complete at 400+ pages and has hundreds of storyboard examples. The examples are instructional as well as an opportunity to appreciate really great art from numerous talented artists.

Plus in the 3rd edition there is lots of instruction on how to draw and color storyboards. No other storyboard book comes close to what this book offers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, November 19, 2006
I've never seen a book that covers half of what this book covers on storyboards. I had no idea there was this much to doing storyboards. The new 3rd edition is also beautiful with tons of great sample art.

Plus, the information is well written and easy to understand. I've been struggling to find an easy way to color my digital boards and this book quickly showed me how.

You won't believe how big this book is. I can't believe it costs less than the last edition, and this one is in full color. I've always been interested in storyboarding, and now I feel it's something I can tackle.

This is my new bible on storyboarding.

I enjoyed much of the information that was given in the book. It was helpful to see the type of renderings were being done and to see how other professionals have been able to accomplish given tasks.
