Biography

The pressure was off. Kasey Chambers had announced to her manager, record company and fans that there wouldn’t be a new album for at least another year. And then the songs came rushing out – 14 diverse compositions, all delivered fully formed, completed within a few hectic weeks in February 2010, during which Kasey also performed as opening act through Lyle Lovett’s ... Editorial Reviews

2011 album from the Australian singer/songwriter, a collection of songs that inspired her to become a musician. 'It was exciting to be a human jukebox for this record,' she confesses, 'to get the chance to record the songs I love.' One of the darkest songs to ever scale the pop charts, Suzanne Vega's 'Luka' is the first single from Storybook and has been a personal favorite of Kasey's since she first heard it on release in 1987. Kasey also works her magic on gutsy, soulful tunes hand-picked from the songbooks of Paul Kelly, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Fred Eaglesmith, Patty Griffin and many others. These are songs with a fair bit of grit in their grooves, populated by very real, very human characters.

Just pick one at random.

An album of covers of songs she likes... Hank's "I'm so lonesome I could cry", Graham Parsons' "Return of the Grievous Angel".

Kasey Chambers, although a legend in her home, Australia, is relatively unknown in the States and will probably remain that way since she she seems content to remain at home with her family and resists touring. Our loss. Do yourself a favor and make the effort to seek out her music. "Storybook" is a wonderful compilation of covers of songs by others that have inspired her. But to truly appreciate her talent, both as a singer and a songwriter, you must also sample her earlier releases. Just pick one at random. You'll be back for more.

I love finding music that is lyrically moving, creative and thought-provoking that speaks to authentic emotions and human experience and I found this and more in Kasey Chambers' "Storybook". Her voice is one-of-a-kind with a sweet yet strong and passionate quality that will make you want to re-play each song over and over. Many of her songs do indeed tell a story (Everything's Turning to White, Luka, Orphan Girl)and others are more lighthearted and upbeat (Happy Woman Blues,Leave the Lights on - a John Prine original). From Ballads to Blues this album has it all (my personal favorite is Grievous Angel). If you don't like wasting your time with mainstream music that leaves you wanting something to feed your soul and stir your emotions, join me in adding Kasey Chambers to your daily playlists! You won't be disappointed! If you like Kasey Chambers you should also listen to Brandi Carlile and one of my all time favorites, Nanci Griffith.

An album of covers of songs she likes... Hank's "I'm so lonesome I could cry", Graham Parsons' "Return of the Grievous Angel". She has the a sound similar to a very young Jesse Colter. This is a great album by a great artist. You will not be disappointed. A fantastic purchase.

I enjoyed most of the songs on this album. She's a good, strong performer and I wish she'd come to the States, preferably the western states! We have venues too!

I like everything Kasey Chambers does. This one is wonderful because she does a bunch of other folks songs which are favorites. I'd recommend it.

Great album for Kasey Chambers fans. Very good renditions of the covers, in the Kasey Chambers style we love while staying faithful to the original versions.
