Storyteller doesn't stray too far from Carrie's formula for previous success, and it's nice to see motherhood hasn't changed the "Queen of Country Music." While there are strong rock undertones throughout the album, it's the Carrie we've all come to know and love over the last 10 years. Let's break down the stand out songs.

1.) Renegade Runaway - It's the 180 degree, sister song of her 2009 lead single "Cowboy Casanova" and the same type of smart word play as 2012's "Good Girl," Carrie tells all the boys why they should fear this woman. Describing her as "tough as nails, under that corset," this Femme Fatale anthem is something all the wives and girlfriends will be singing along to in the car.

2.) Dirty Laundry - Reminds us why we love her and the songwriters she's so fond of working with on material. Right out the gate, the lyrics of this song hit you with the same strength of Carrie's vocal performances; "That lipstick on your collar well it ain't my shade of pink, and I can tell by the smell of that perfume it's like forty dollars too cheap." Cheaters, Cheaters, BEWARE: Because Carrie doesn't have time for your 'Dirty Laundry'.

3.) Church Bells - Do I hear a little bit of rocker-chic, reinvented version of Reba's "Fancy" or Dixie Chicks' "Goodbye Earl"? This story takes us through the full ringer watching the bells evolve from the wedding, to the church services after a night where she's been beaten and abused, and the bells taking a turn at his funeral. It's an amazing story to hear unravel, and is one of the album's strongest efforts.

4.) Heartbeat - Is a nice change of pace. A mid-tempo song for those slow dances.

I have been a fan of Carrie Underwood ever since her debut album "Some Hearts" came out and have loved every album she subsequently released. Her music is beautiful and fun and her voice is so strong and clear that it was impossible for me not to listen to her songs over and over again. I was eagerly anticipating the release of "Storyteller" and couldn't wait for the release date to arrive! I just finished listening to the entire album and have started playing it over again as I write this review because I loved it so much that I couldn't get enough of it!

In true Carrie Underwood style, her songs are beautiful and full of meaning. "Storyteller" has beautiful ballads and boot-stomping uptempo songs. I felt that "Storyteller" was even more mature than her previous albums, which could be due to her becoming a mom recently. Of course I love all of her songs but my personal favorites are "The Girl You Think I Am" and "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted." Personally, I love the beautiful ballads the most and these especially showcase her powerful voice. I also love the uptempo "Dirty Laundry" and it makes me want to sing and dance!

"Storyteller" is a country album, in my opinion, but I think that even some pop music fans would find at least a couple of these songs appealing. If you enjoy Carrie Underwood's previous albums, I would highly recommend picking up this one. I can't get enough of it and am looking forward to listening to it more in the upcoming weeks. I absolutely loved it and recommend it to anyone!

First all-new studio offering since 2012, and after giving birth to a baby boy just recently, "Storyteller" finds Carrie Underwood at her most experimental. Along with her steady collaborator Mark Bright, and with 2 new producers, who help push her into new sonic realms, on here she is exploring soul, southern-rock, R'n'B, and pop, pushing the boundaries unlike ever before, but retaining the country feel that is always the most distinctive feature in her music. With hardly a weak track, this is arguably her strongest record. Whether it is upbeat tracks such as opener "Renegade runaway", the sassy "Dirty laundry", and the rocky "Church bells" (3 fine examples of tour de force storytelling), or midtempos such as the Sam Hunt-assisted "Heartbeat", "Like I'll never love you again", one of the most glorious love songs in her catalogue, "The girl you think I am", an almost acoustic, guitar and piano track, dedicated to her father, and the closing "What I never knew I always wanted", a tribute to her newborn baby.

And more varied tracks like the poppier "Chaser", and "Clock don't stop", or "Choctaw County affair", a bluesy, gospel-tinged narrative about a murder trial, and "Relapse", an addiction-related song whose slow verses build up to a soaring chorus. Quite literally, the album feels like the musical equivalent of storytime. Lyrically fleshed-out with great effect, musically innovative, incorporating influences from a variety of genres, and exhibiting her most evocative vocals so far, "Storyteller" has all that requires to become a classic in its genre. Regardless of claims that CU is not country enough, her voice and stories have always been rooted in country tradition.
