5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I loved this story! The author does an exceptional job with descriptions of the characters and the world they live in. I love the idea of the stories coming to life to assist the tellers. It brings back memories of when I was a child when stories were read to me that were so vivid that I felt as though I was in the story. This story does the same thing for me...

3.0 out of 5 stars great idea, so-so writing
I am a storyteller, so of course I was intrigued by the premise of this book. It really is a great idea, enough so that I will probably continue with the series. That being said, the writing itself is awful weak. There was honestly something at least every chapter that was so poorly done that it would jolt me out of th story. I think the author has promise, he has...

I loved this story! The author does an exceptional job with descriptions of the characters and the world they live in. I love the idea of the stories coming to life to assist the tellers. It brings back memories of when I was a child when stories were read to me that were so vivid that I felt as though I was in the story. This story does the same thing for me.

The characters are well defined and as they go through their adventures it is easy to picture what is going on. It has humor that works well making the reader laugh out loud. It is a very creative story. It was exceptionally hard for me to put down. I can honestly see this story one day in movie form!

You will not be disappointed in purchasing this story, I highly recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Fantasy Hits the Market and Rocks It, February 5, 2010

Your first chapter was one of the hottest openings I've read. Intense. This author knows how to write to his market, beginning with the character of Brighton. He's a typical year old in many ways - not into the wedding a bit, would rather get lost in his book (or today, his video game), but we quickly learn there's much more to this child. I enjoyed the fascinating turn - quite a surprise - that a first-born son was a bad omen. So, the boy had the cards stacked against him at birth. Then his drunken father died the same night. Not a good beginning for a kid, but his mother did seem to care for him. I'm into his psyche at that point, and find it no leap to believe how angry he is that she's remarrying, and this is his reason to boycott the wedding.

The Storyteller, Eleman, is a classic and wonderful character. I love that he doesn't consider his gift magical. It's just what he does, no different from Bright's mom who weaves beautiful cloth. Bright wants to be like him, but cannot be tested for a year. The insights into the "rules" of the storyteller is fascinating, especially that humans can not be harmed. Then we see a darker side to the young boy. Again, no leap in belief there, and hardly one could have a leap in judgment, either. He's just a little kid.

Bedlam breaks out - and this scene is rich with action and aparent victory. It's short-lived however...I literally gasped (and I never gasp at anything).

To this brilliant story of vivid colors, a magical setting, and endless intrigues. Fantasy storytelling at it's best.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Stirring Reminder Of The Transformative Power Of Words, June 22, 2010
By
This review is from: Storytellers (Storytellers Saga) (Kindle Edition)
Thousands of years ago, in the wake of the great Story Wars, the great Sage Montok Waynew signed the Book Accords, thereby decreeing that all books be required to edify all of mankind. By doing so, it was the hope of the Sages to eradicate the crippling tyranny that had come to suppress the spirit of freedom and enlightenment worldwide. As a result of the new Accords, all books found to be undesirable were subsequently destroyed - lest they hinder the growth and development of future generations; however, in an age when the laws and traditions of old began to carry less and less weight, it was up to three brave young apprentices to restore peace, harmony, and understanding before the darkness of oppression reared its ugly head once more...

Combining taut action with an intriguing central storyline, Storytellers is an engaging, imaginative fantasy thriller. Ostensibly crafted for younger readers, author Martin Sharlow's engaging tale of ancient myth and legend holds a salient appeal for all fans of quality literature - regardless of age. How is this possible? By keeping true to the spirit of its title; Sharlow's own commendable storytelling does much to bolster the key premise of the story: to illustrate the power of words as they connect to create stories with the ability to shape and mold us in ways we can hardly imagine.

The solid debut of what promises to be a thrilling new trilogy, Storytellers is a vivid reminder of the striking beauty - and portentous danger - of language. A recommended read.

That being said, the writing itself is awful weak. There was honestly something at least every chapter that was so poorly done that it would jolt me out of th story. I think the author has promise, he has great ideas, but he'd do himself a favor by working on his craft.

I couldn't put it down from the beginning! This story almost immediately grabs the reader and sends them soaring into another world. I can see this becoming an instant classic, and a great film.

My first 99 cent download and it was a great surprise. Great twist on a genre that can use something different. I'm only about half-way through the book, but so far it is a real page turner (clicker?).
