5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Fabulous!, July 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Stott Pilates - Advanced Matwork [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is fast paced and challenging. I have been doing Pilates for two years and was looking for something a little different. The work-out, though long, goes by quickly and Stott's informative commentary maintains interest. Her discussion of breathing is especially detailed, without interupting the flow of the movements. Each set of exercises continues into the next without pause, adding to the difficulty level of this workout. This is not a routine for beginners! I tried this video after noticing positive changes in a friend's physique who recommended this tape to me. After doing this workout my entire body was humming!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great pilates challenge, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Stott Pilates - Advanced Matwork [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I love this video, but be sure you are advanced before you try it as it is HARD (she has other videos in the series which work up to it). It is 51 minutes long with 3 minutes of upper body work, 13 of lower body, and 22 minutes of super ab work. Her instruction is super clear as always and you really feel like she is there with you. Also, flexion and extension moves are carefully alternated so you are getting a great stretch for all your screaming muscles. This video just does not get me in shape, it makes me feel good. What is better than that????

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Work Out, June 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Stott Pilates - Advanced Matwork [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have Windsor Pilates and Crunch Pick your Spot Pilates tapes. Stott Pilates Advanced Matwork 2nd Edition is better than both. It is fast, has varied exercises and is challenging. If you want an overall body challenge buy this tape (about 50 min). Windsor Pilates is too slow and not challenging enough, Crunch Pick Your Spot is good but it is too short(30min) and not an overall body workout (duh). This tape is well worth the money IF you want a challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what you've been looking for, March 5, 2003

This tape is without doubt the best advanced pilates tape you'll find. Moira is inspiring, and reminds you exactly when to breathe throughout the most difficult exercises (she doesn't seem to be having any trouble herself...). Definitely get the intermediate video, which is also fabulous, if you don't have prior experience with Pilates. She moves fairly quickly through pretty tough stuff. Otherwise, you will get the most bang for your buck out of this tape.

I have little more to add that hasn't already been stated quite eloquently in prior reviews. This is a truly superb and challenging video. My wife and I have noticed exceptional toning and definition, as a result of this particular regimen. Our only hope is that Moira will come out with another similarly advanced version. If you're seeking relatively quick and superior results, then this video should certainly meet your expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most challenging Pilates tape!!, January 30, 2003

I have over 10 pilates tapes and this, by far, is the most challenging. It is an excellent work out. The tape is rather long, but you can start at the "hundred" as most other pilates tapes do. The instructor is excellent and keeps the class going at an excellent pace. I would highly recommend this tape.

I have been doing pilates for several months now and this is exactly the workout I have been looking for. Although, I must admit that I do skip the first 10 minutes of warming up and start at the pilates one-hundred. It is challenging and I enjoy the variety of exercises on this tape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Advanced Pilates Workout, February 16, 2004

This is a good workout, I liked the fact that the pace is moderate comparing to other advanced pilates workouts (especially the classical pilates technique), which give you more time to concentrate in your moves. The warm up in the beginning is a little bit boring, but never mind .

5.0 out of 5 stars great tape if you like Pilates, October 15, 2006

This review is from: Stott Pilates - Advanced Matwork [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I highly recommend this tape to anyone who wants to do pilates. Initialy I was skeptical because the first few minutes of warmup is very boring, but she soon moves on to more challenging exercises, especially a lot of variations of V-sits. Also, initially I was reluctant about the length of the video (~50 minutes), but since she moves from one move to the next, the time passed quickly and she doesn't waste time sitting around.

Stott is very clear about cueing the moves, including when to inhale/exhale. She demonstrates very good form, with good lines/angles, always in control of the moves, and fluid motions (i.e. no jerking or flinging).

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a challenging Pilates routine (or non-pilates people who want to cross train).

4.0 out of 5 stars adv pilates, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Stott Pilates - Advanced Matwork [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Wow, what a workout. It's all the basic pilates exercises, but w/ a twist. It's very challenging & you will definitely work up a sweat. I usually skip the very beginning until when she starts the hundred. It really pushes you so by the end, I usually screaming at her.
