Product Description

An ABS Handle attachment that allows you to grip a tool higher on the shaft of any long-handled tool, so you stand up straighter-avoiding the awkward bending that is the primary cause of lower back strain and injury. It allows your legs to take the burden off your back. Makes your work easier with Shovels, Snow Shovels, Garden Rakes, Hoes, Pitchforks, Push brooms, Tree Trimmers, Paint Extension Poles, Fishing Poles, Dip Nets and more. Helps prevent injuries on the job. It significantly reduces the bending, leaning and lifting that can lead to back and shoulder fatigue. Fits any long-handled tools and moves easily from one tool to another in minutes. Made from tough, ABS plastic and guaranteed not to break for 2 years. Installs in 2-3 minutes without tools.

Customer Reviews

It is easy to install and works great.

It basically screws on easily onto your shovel handle, locked on with some washers that come with it.

Makes snow shoveling much better for the back.

Installs kind of easily but works great. I used it to shovel in the notheast and you really don't need to bend over. Fantastic product!

I got a snow shovel last year that had something similar (and with swivels) built in. The swivels broke.

This product, has no swivels. It just screws on - but that's the beauty of the thing. It screws on to ANYTHING - rake, shovel, snow shovel, push broom if you want! With its simple (but effective) UI there's few bits to mess up, so you simply have a strong, useful add-on to most any tool about the house!

I first saw this handle on clearance at a local store for $2.50 a few years ago. After trying it and finding it extremely helpful, I went back and bought 6 more. I have mounted these on 2 rakes, 2 snow shovels, a tree lopper, a pole-mounted chain saw, and (as of yesterday) a pole-mounted hedge trimmer. Mine are all older (I think) models which fasten with 6 screws, not 4 as shown. Any tool mounted on a pole is going to be somewhat clumsy to use, but this handle makes it a lot less so. You should try locating the handle at various point on the tool's handle to see where it balances best and provides the best leverage. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The lower handle on my Black and Decker Grass Hog string trimmer broke and the part has been discontinued. I tried using the trimmer without a lower handle and it proved to be a disaster because I had to bend over too far. Some Internet research turned up the Stout Backsaver Grip, but I couldn't find it in any local store despite Stout's website saying it was available. Thus, I ordered it from Amazon. Extremely easy to install and it solved my problem immediately. This would be an excellent way to add an auxiliary grip to something like a snow shovel or a rake.

I was rather dubious when I purchased it, but it was inexpensive so I figured I would give it a try. I'm glad I did.

Installation is easy. Though, a pair of pliers really helps tighten the wing-properly.

It encourage better posture while shoveling - I find that I use my back less and my arms and legs more when using it. After this most recent storm we had in the Northeast I had about 2 feet of snow to shovel. The next day I experienced no back pain like I often do after shoveling large amounts of snow.

My only complaint is that if you may need to modify your shoveling motion if you tend to twist the shovel as you move snow. I've found that the grip attachment will rotate if that action is used. But overall the product is great. Highly recommended.

I purchased this off a clearance shelf from "Wallyworld" on a whim one day. It sat around the shed for months until I used it on my pitchfork to unload and help spread six cubic yards of cypress mulch. What a back saver! It was most useful for the transfer of mulch from the trailer to the wheelbarrow and mulching was much easier this year. Adjustments, installation, and removal are all very easy thanks to the spade-head thumb screws. I have also used it on my transfer shovel loading sand and gravel off my driveway, which brings me to best uses and limitations.

It worked better on my transfer shovel than it did on my digging shovel. It would be great for snow and transfer shovels, pitchforks, and replacement grips for gas powered trimmers. I would not recommend this for rakes, or digging implements, as it will just get in the way. It is made of a tough thermoplastic and has shown it can take some abuse. I only wish I would have thought of it first. Thanks.

Very satisfied with updated version and will buy more. Distributor warranty replacement of original version required due to design issue affecting longevity.

Anyone looking at this in March is probably wishing they bought it 6 months ago, and I am so glad I did. I am particularly tall (6'6") and shoveling absolutely kills my back. I have a shared driveway that sits between 2 houses, so i often have to pick up the snow and carry it 20 feet before throwing it. This grip doesn't make shoveling easy, but it massively reduces the stress on my back, I don't bend over nearly as much, and I can throw more easily and with more torque. It probably makes shoveling 30% easier - and given the winter we just had, that is a blessing.
