I had an aluminum moka pot before, but was concerned with the fact that it was aluminum, so I went on a search to find a stainless steel moka pot and ended up with this one.

Overall, I like this pot since it is bigger than my last pot and made of stainless steel. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved upon.

First, the inside of the pot isn't stainless steel, but is coated with some mystery coating that is definitely not stainless. I'm not sure what the reason behind this coating is, but I'd rather it wasn't there. Also, the spout could be improved upon. It's positioning tends to cause minor spills when you are pouring.

While this pot isn't the perfect moka pot, it is better than any of the others I've tried, so I would recommend it.

I purchased this in July of 2011, used it about four times, and the reservoir gasket and the ring that holds it in place fell out. I tried to push it in and use it that way, but since the top screws off, it would not stay in place. Before I could contact the vendor, I had to go out of the country.

After I got back, I contacted the vendor (Kasbahouse) earlier this year, and on February 7 they offered to send me a "new filter and ring." I said fine, let's try it. Nothing arrived. I wrote them again on February 28, asking if it had ever been sent, and they responded that it should have been sent and said they would send me a tracking number. I received neither parts nor tracking number. I wrote them on March 12, telling them I had not received either a filter and ring or a tracking number. I have had no response.

In the first response, the vendor said "If you tighten the pot too much, the ring can stick to the bottom when you unscrew it." Frankly, this sounds like a design problem to me, as one obviously has to tighten the pot enough to seal the steam flow. So if the vendor is right, IMHO this is a pot that has a design flaw and should be avoided, as should this vendor.

Great gift January 28, 2011

I gave this as a gift to my sister and her husband. They have a smaller stove-top maker that we use at family get-togethers. I wanted to get them the nicest one that I could fine. I saw this one in a store, but they were out of stock. The finish is perfect. Have not noticed any handle issues. Great tasting espresso.
