Very, very good., July 26, 2006

Another excellent book by the Kelleys. I like how they take a historical event and use it in a present day mystery. The writing of the characters is great! I hope they write many more.
However, (and this applies to all authors...) the ending is very frustrating because they are not explicit as to whether or not the character Jill is dead or not. At the end, Jill is beaten up by a bad guy, the medics arrive and try to revive her but have no luck. She is dead. But Quinn is telling the medics to zap her one more time. Do they? The authors don't say. Then there is a small part about two people at a grave sight. Is it Jill's grave? Or is it Jill and Quinn at the grave sight? The authors don't make this explicitly clear, which drives me nuts.
Authors: Please be explicit with endings!! It may be fun or funny (to the authors) to have such an ending but it drives readers crazy and leaves a bad taste. There is no literary reason for such an ending.... It's not "artsy" or intelligent. It's just frustrating.
Otherwise, best book I've read since Legacy.:)

This is the best book yet of the three set on Drummond Island. I can't wait for the next one. Thanks!
