5.0 out of 5 stars stoner rock masterpiece, July 8, 2010
By
This review is from: Str8 Outta Northcote (Audio CD)
For all those who did not like this album because it didn't compare to cult extreme metal bands with high-end production and state-of-the-art audio equipment so you could hear every single overused double-kick beat crystal clear, you COMPLETELY missed the point. Blood Duster is a grindcore band in name only. They sound grindcore enough on the first listen but you can also detect a HUGE punk/southern rock influence. They are, more or less, a condensed stoner rock/sludge band. I can hear a little Melvins, ZZ Top, and a tremendous amout of Kyuss on here. Take all the catchy nineties hooks and riffs you can think of, shorten them to be played with a thrashy drumbeat and heavily fuzzed guitars, and cut the song to about 30 sec. to 1:40, and eliminate all solos, except for an outstanding one at the very end, and you have this album. "Celebrating 35% Pigfat" has the best punk/metal guitar riff EVER. I wish that song was maybe a minute longer. The instrumental track sounds like music to listen to in a beat-up pick-up truck going 70 mph through the sticks with cops chasing you. The unlisted final track is some of their best work. The aforementioned solo is a stoner rock odyssey. Don't buy this album if you are into serious grindcore/extreme metal. Just because they have the word "Blood" in their name doesn't mean all of their songs are, well..."blood" related.

anyway, this band is catchy as hell. it's extremely well done. it's just plain awesome. it's like you take all that stuff you like about rock and roll like the pentatonic blues scale, solos you can remember and that big blues beat + relapse grindcore and you get straight up quality. buy it, then drive around in your car banging your head to it like i do. the only complaint is that it's too short, short as in you want more when it's over.
