Chris Merola's debut emblematic storybook album, "Straight Answers In A Crooked Town", conjures up an emotionally charged tale of a time not too long ago and not to far into the future. With the folkish stylings on EDEN'S BRIDGE, the Tom Petty-esque GOD'S TELESCOPE and HOLE IN THE ROAD to the quirky-blues number PAPER THIN, "Straight Answers In A Crooked Town" is a thinking mans collection of haunting lyrics and strong compositions. With his soft rhaspody voice (that gives this reviewer glimpses of Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum) on tracks like BOUND, Merola has kept this collection wonderfully simple. With the Dylan-inspired story telling on songs like POURS DOWN LIKE RAIN he encourages the listener to find the truths behind the song.
