4.0 out of 5 stars What a treat! October 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A bargain and a good book to boot! It's a bit chic-lit, a bit paranormal, and a whole lot of heart. There are times when it's all the heroine can do to get herself back on the straight and narrow. There's temptations and bills to pay and kids to mother-and the devil trying like hell to hook her soul.

Straight to Hell is a story of redemption, hope and romance all rolled into one. It reminds me of Holly Lisle's Sympathy for the Devil (Devil's Point).

The humor and pacing in Straight to Hell only gets better as the book goes along, -and more heart-rending the more you get to know the characters. The story takes on a little more seriousness towards the end as well. The book comes across as light-hearted chic-lit, but it's really dealing with more serious issues of...decisions and consequences. What would you do if your child was in danger? What would you REALLY do to save her?

But I didn't even realize it until after I finished because the book is extremely well-written. It stays in a fast-paced mode and is funny in spots and throws in a touch of romance so you're distracted from the seriousness.

My only gripe is that it's one of those "to be continued." Not enough was resolved for me by the end of the book, but that kind of fits the nature of the story. Soon as you solve one problem or beat one monster in life, another one appears. Maybe bigger. Maybe it's just the monster that was there all along.

It's weird cleverness hiding behind light reading.

Recommended for chic-lit lovers looking for a story with heart, plot, romance and humor, but be warned-the plot is not fully resolved in book one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life is hell for the succubus single mom September 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lilith Straight had it all, the rich husband, the fabulous house - in short the perfect life - but no more. Then just when she thinks that everything in her life has gone to hell, Lilith dies and goes to Hell (literally) and back. Now Lilith's a newly made Succubus and a single mom trying to balance her new duties with her family and her old values.

I actually purchased this book accidentally - it is just too easy to click the "Buy" instead of the "See Details" - but it was only ninety nine cents, so what the heck I decided to give it a shot. Which is lucky, because this turned out to be a more than decent not-quite-urban-fantasy-not-quite-chicklity-paranormal read. I liked Lilith's struggle to get by. That she occassionally succumbs to temption by using her seductive powers to help her family survive, and how she manages to foul up at being evil when the chips are down, is at times amusing. She does have to make some unfortunate trade offs along the way, but still Lilith manages to stay a sympathetic character even as a minion.

So, I thought Straight to Hell was entertaining and, surprisingly, the story was PG13 at most - which was pretty amazing for a book that had a succubus in the lead.

5.0 out of 5 stars UFR Reviews Straight to Hell February 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, in fact to be completely honest I was expecting a very amusing chick lit book with a paranormal flare. And if I am being completely honest I did get a bit of that flare but at the same time the book was so much more than I was expecting.

While I could definitely see how this book would appeal to a readership who enjoy chick lit, which for the record I too enjoy all forms of chick lit. Seriously the inner workings/monologues of women spoken through authors voices are some of the most hilarious and enjoyable reads I have the pleasure of reading.

This book however is so much more. It's one of those books that you want to spend some time thinking about after you are done reading, you want to think about what you would have done in Lilith's shoes, and let me tell you she has so seriously difficult to walk in. This is one of those books where you want to get together with a couple of your girlfriends afterward and talk about the book at length. I am going to do my best to try to not give anything away throughout the rest of this review.

Lilith is suddenly thrust into a world she never new existed, heck she is suddenly housing her very own demon! Lilith was down on her luck before, and as a newly single mom who cares for not only her daughter but her niece and irresponsible stepsister; well lets just say Lilith has a good heart and has a lot to deal with in order to keep her family together.

Becoming "part" demon if you will puts Lilith at odds with who she is as a person, as it would for most of us. Let's face it most of us aren't perfect but most of us aren't evil/demony. So Lilith goes through a lot of inner conflict with her new role she can't escape which makes her reactions and thoughts totally understandable. There were moments you wanted to laugh at her inner dialogue, moments you wanted to pull for Lilith to be able to protect her family, and moments where you wanted Lilith to be good at her new "job" as demon houser.

In my opinion hats off to the author for both bringing humor to a book while at the same time making the reader really consider what they would do in Lilith's place, as well as considering your own personal view of good and bad. This is a great book and well written, I am seriously looking forward to book two which is released this year, so hurry up and read this book before the second one comes out!
