As an author, speaker, and publisher, lots and lots and LOTS of books come before me. All kinds of books of many different qualities. It takes a really good book with wisdom, heart, and writing skill to get my attention. Straight From the Horse's Mouth really got my attention. This is a rare find! Amelia Kinkade has a gift. She can read animals' minds -- and souls. If you are a pet lover like me, you have probably spent a lot of time wondering what your dog or cat or horse or bird is really thinking and wanting. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to ask your animal friend questions and get answers, just as you would from another person? Maybe even better answers, since animals, unlike humans, are honest ALL the time. This book is a rare gem, not just for the fascinating stories Amelia shares about her own experiences with animal communication, but because she teaches you how to talk to your animal yourself. I tried the simple exercises, and they really work. Using these techniques, I asked my dog some questions about who he likes to stay with when I am gone, and he told me. Actually, I just listened. I realized that he is always broadcasting his intentions; I just have to be open to hear what he is saying. Now when we are at various choice points I tune in to him, and I get some pretty clear information. We have a whole new depth of relationship! When I read material related to psychology or spirituality, I feel for the ring of truth. The moment I opened up Straight From the Horse's Mouth, I felt that resonance loud, clear, and deep. Amelia has done her homework. She has practiced her art for a long time and built some very intuitive skills. There is no substitute for the genuine article. Most valuable to me, Amelia writes from the heart. She comes from a place of deep sincerity and total honesty. As a person, she is transparent -- nothing to hide, no pretensions; what you see is what you get. How refreshing! I trust her words and her work. She is here to learn and serve. Plus, she's a hoot! I found myself chuckling time and again at her stories. She happens to be a great writer, mostly for her utter naturalness. She has a remarkable command of language and metaphor, which keeps the book moving and absorbing. Even if I weren't interested in animal communication, I would find this to be a remarkable manual for psychic and soul development. Don't be limited by the title or the subject matter -- there is profound wisdom and insight here. You probably get the idea by now. I can't say enough wonderful things about this book. I would give it more stars than five if they let me. I am recommending it to all of my friends who have pets and love animals. I would recommend Straight from the Horse's Mouth, four paws up, to anybody who wants to develop their ability to find love, beauty, compassion, and healing in the natural world, including yourself.

Let me tell you, reading this book was a PLEASURE. Amelia verified everything I have believed from the time I was a little girl, I just couldn't prove it. When the author ran thru the names of books she had read, (Women Who Run w/Wolves, Henry Blake, Monty Roberts, Stephen Covey, Allen M Schoen, Betty Edwards)it sounded like the same list I've been reading for years.

My first real "animal book" was in high school, "Kinship With All Life"...and I never stopped believing. I talked to ants and animals. I rescued spides, scorpions, and tarantullas. I have found rattlesnakes in my barn and out by my shed and have simply told them (verbally) that they were welcome as long as they left my horses and other companions alone. I've never had a problem.

I also liked Amelia's suggestion to ask God, "What can I do today to glorify God and love man." YES YES YES!!! When she said that man was the image and likeness of God I almost fell out of my chair (I was raised with that statement in church). Amelia's statement, that she never believed that God and man are separate is so true. I always figured if God loved man and the rest of the animals, of course we can all communicate together as we all have the same Father/Mother.

I read this book on the plane home and finished it the next day. I cried often with Joy reading it. The day I finished the book I immediately told my indoor companions how much I love them (two dogs and a cat).

That night in bed I told my female cat (Kiki) how much she was loved and how special she is. All this was done mentally (I might as well start practicing).

Kiki rarely sleeps on the bed in the summer, it's too hot. But that night I told her how I felt and that I really loved it when she reached out her paw and touched me before I fell asleep. She's only done it about twice in her life (she was a rescued stray and often goes days without wanting attention). Then I told her "Good Night, Kiki, I love you", (which is part of my nightly ritual). I closed my eyes and immediately I felt her little paw against my arm. With tears in my eyes I told her thank you and that I loved her too. I petted her and closed my eyes again, and again that little paw slid up against my arm. I just opened my eyes and mentally told her how much she was loved. They're ALL so special.

I have worked with animals for over 15 years and have been told that I had a gift of communicating with animals to calm them.
A friend recommended this book to me because of watching me work with animals,and after using this I have been able to talk with my clients pets.
I know it sounds crazy, I don't have actual conversations but I see pictures and occassionally get some words.
I wish I had room enough to tell all the things that I have been able to convey to their owners.
If anyone would like actual situations please e-mail and I'd be more then happy to share them.
This has been the first book to help me understand exactly what the animals want or are going through.
I would recommend this book to anyone that wants or has that special connection with animals, it's the most amazing feeling when you can think about the animal and have him show you what he would like to do or what is bothering him.

What a gift! You owe it to yourself to get your hands (and your heart!) around this one!

Straight From The Horse's Mouth is simply great! It is, by far, the best animal communication book I have read - and I have read most of them during the past several months! They each offer a wonderful taste of the "magic", but this one delivers the full course meal, from appetizer to dessert!

Straight From The Horse's Mouth is a truly wonderful read! It is honest and creative, with humor and love embodied in each and every chapter.

And it includes enough science, physics and technical analysis to explain exactly why animal communication is possible. Amelia Kinkade powerfully answers that little voice in your head that keeps wondering, "Is this really possible?" and "I don't really believe in this, do I?". Bring your skepticism with you as you turn the first few pages - I bet it disappears before you turn the last one.

After reading other animal communication books, I said, "I hope I can do this." After reading Straight From the Horse's Mouth, I said, "I KNOW I can do this!"

This book gives the most specific, creative and detailed approaches to the process that I have found. It's like being given a step-by-step recipe - and it works right from the start!

The meditation techniques and detailed visualizations, including specific words and phrases, are a real treasure! Even if you have no inclination to speak with animals, the techniques for breathing and centering and achieving a more spiritual balance are truly wonderful! But be prepared - you may find yourself more open to animals in spite of yourself!!

Most other animal communication books give a brief outline and encourage you to keep practicing in order to develop your skill. But Straight From The Horse's Mouth gives readers very specific tools and techniques for developing this ability and builds upon each level as you reach it.

This is not just a book to read once from cover to cover, which you will! It is simply the most helpful resource out there for increasing your understanding and connection with animals - and you can turn to it repeatedly as you develop your ability.

Amelia Kinkade has a writing style that is just a joy to read, effortless and ringing true from the introduction to the epilogue - full of love and honesty. She takes her own experiences as an animal communicator and weaves them all together with wit and science. You will laugh and cry and think. Different passages or sentence structures or presentations of information really struck a chord as I was reading. It is hard, as a writer, to evoke that kind of reaction consistently throughout a work, but Amelia does it just beautifully!

I am sure the book was a labor of love, but I know that Amelia Kinkade will be amazed at how far-reaching the impact of this book will be! Straight From The Horse's Mouth is a rare gift - one that will touch and improve countless lives, both animal and human. A single person can make a difference, and Amelia Kinkade has done just that with her book!

I am a journalist, and I got this book for research in connection with an article I was writing for FERRETS magazine. I also got it because I was basically just interested in the subject. Well, I read A LOT of books for my research, but I am glad I *bought* this one. It's a keeper. It's extremely well-written in an entertaining style, and covers everything you could possibly want to know about interspecies communication. I even bought another copy as a gift for a friend. I will read it again, for sure.

My one complaint? No ferret stories!

What can I say, this book kicks arse! I've been to Amelia's interactive 2 day lectures, and would NEVER have thought of attending had I not read her book and thirsted for more! The book is dotted with medetations to help us break down our intellectual processes, so we become open to what our animal friends are telling us. It flows with stories from Amelia's life and keeps you fully entertained with her wit while jerking a tear or two from your eyes. If you are interested in animal communications-and who wouldn't be?-This book is for you.

If you love animals, this book will be vital to you.

It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. But, most of all, it will teach you how to communicate with your beloved animals as well as with wild ones.

I have always felt that I knew animals, spending my childhood volunteering to walk lonely neighborhood dogs, and later becomming a dog walker and pet sitter as an adult. But I was often frustrated that I couldn't actually know what my four-legged friends were trying to tell me. I never thought it was truly possible that I could converse with them the way a few highly psychic people around the world seem "lucky" enough to be able to do. After reading STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH, I am staggered by how easy it has been to get messages from my dogs and cats. They were talking to me all of the time; I just wasn't able to tap in to their messages before reading this book. Suddenly I ask them a question and hear answers, which prove to be accurate. I know I have a long way to go, but Amelia has inspired me that this is one journey I would never want to miss. I believe Ms. Kinkade will be a global bestseller, as this book is one of the most conscious, intelligent, thought provoking and entertaining books I have ever read. I feel that she was sent to us as an angel for the animal world and that the healing she will facilitate through this work will be like nothing we've ever seen before. From house cats to big cats facing extinction in the jungles of the world, Amelia is their champion, and ours!

Never before have I finished a book and immediately turned around and started reading it again. It's that great! Amelia's style of writing has the reader enthralled and you can't wait to read more. I laughed and I cried at her stories. I'd always been more of a "dog person" before but after reading about her cats I have much more respect for them. This book should be compulsory reading in all schools. Can't wait for Amelia's next book.

I ditto the comments of other reviewers so I will keep this short. 5 stars!!! Worth 3 times the money.

I have studied the methods of other animal communicators, and purchased their books and tapes. This really is the best I have found.

I also have her CD which can be purchased from her web site, and it is wonderful as well.
