Well, he has done it, and from it has come an exciting record that is full of a variety of genres, influences, instruments, melodies and emotion topped off with his unmistakable voice � a defining element of The Devil Makes Three.

Clever songwriter,

What really saves Bernhard is that he's a better-than-average songwriter. He can do clever lyrics and write songs that actually have tunes, which makes him stand out from a lot of other musicians that fall loosely into this alt/rock/country genre.
The only real miss on here is his cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Mr. Gold and Mr. Mudd," which is played at a slowed pace. The song really needs the original rolling tempo to give it energy and suspense.
