5.0 out of 5 stars Pebbles strongest album to date.
Straight From My Heart is a masterpiece. It showcases the amazing talents of a greatly overlooked soul sister. Pebbles voice is at its best and her skills as an executive producer must be commended. what does become a 1980s diva? if your vanessa williams, a series of adult-contemporary albums and a stint on broadway erase your scandal-ladden past and you emerge a pop icon. if you're sa-fire, you attempt to maintain your career with a remake of "i will survive" for the _she-devil_ soundtrack before charting a new course as a diva salsera. and, if you're...

Straight From My Heart is a masterpiece. It showcases the amazing talents of a greatly overlooked soul sister. Pebbles voice is at its best and her skills as an executive producer must be commended. Highlights on the album include Pebbles interpretation of Stevie Wonders "I Cant Help It" and "Angel", penned and produced by Pebs alone. The question I have is why isnt this album still in print?? Pebbles towers over Janet Jackson and Vanessa Williams. I advise music lovers world wide to get their ears tuned to this five star album!! PT Entertainment, Pebbles management company need to pick up thier act and get this songstress the attenetion she deserves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pebbles - da bomb!, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
This is pebbles' best work. Love "Are You Ready?", such a hip hop classic, love the video - Pebbles all over times square - way cool.

The best song on this release had to be the hauntingly cool "I Can't Help It." Pebbles does not have the pipes of a Mariah or Whitney, but she doesn't need it.

This release was mostly a flop, I remember buying upon it's release and immediately falling in love with it. It mostly flopped because I believe she had some kind of health problems that prevented her from promoting it, something like that which was too bad because it was full of 1995 retro to early eighties mixed with sexy mid tempo hip hop grooves.

A classic for the hip hop/r&b 'ers.

Are You Ready?, this is a mistery, why oh why?, Pebbles voice it's so mature and distintive, her lattest effort, Straight From The Heart, wasn't a path tracer like her debut album, but it was fair and classy URBAN-R&B stomper, this album is one of those that you don't get why it didn't hit big, the leading single is simply infectuos and the sensual ballads are the ones that put you in mood. Give it a try it's really good, some other album that didn't receive a fair welcome are HEAD OVER HEELS by Paula Abdul, INTIMACY by Jody Watley.

4.0 out of 5 stars you must like mature/vocals, January 12, 2003

I appreciate this album since it showcases her voice and instrumental production. Highclass music, not for the ghettoladin youths who like to sip on suzurp. The lyrics are very very good, the remake of Stevie's "I can't help it" is good which says alot, the "Are you Ready" version was obviously some record excecs' idea of putting something danceable/previous Pebbles on the album it doesn't fit at all. I bought the single Version which is much better and jazzy goes along with the album. The interludes; I agree with someone who said they were too european for the US, she was too ahead of her time. If this was released now it would go at least triple platinum quick. She be heraled on MTV BET VH1 and whatever else as a mature changer and innovator. But like I said, if you don't like relaxing music, story telling music, emotional/ instrumental you will hate this album. If you do, then you'll love it from start to finish, my fav's are "Like the last time, Angel, Show me. But as much as I hate to admit it, the best JAM is Puffy's handiwork, "You". If this single were released now, LOOK OUT ASHANTI, MARIAH, J. LO, TONI B. or whoever else is out. If you like Pebbles at all you will like this album, get it somehow, it's a keepsake since she won't be recording anymore most likely secular music.

5.0 out of 5 stars STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!!!, June 15, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
Riding on the sucess of the 11 times platinam CD from TLC "CrazySexyCool",their manager Pebbles thought it would be a good time to make her rentry into music.Bad move.Since she had been absent from music from since 1990,she had been completely forgotten by everyone except her loyal and devoted fans by 1995.The mid & late'90's were flooded with female r&b soloists and groups. She had become lost in sea of mediocrety. It would have been wise to wait until 2002.Yes,it is a 12 year absence but the current playing ground for the style of r&b she does is almost empty,so she would have risen to become a superstar now.It would also be a wiser move if she releases a new album of songs right now for the 2000's.This time strongly promoting herself by doing shows[concerts, guest staring on another artist's album and making appearances on radio shows and television. It is the right time to come back and reclaim your throne as an R&B Diva,NOW!!! This album is great,I love every song.I recommend purcasing all 3 of her CD's as they great and a bargin... Signed 17 year old music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pebbles' Masterpiece, June 25, 2001
This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
I bought "Straight From My Heart" when it was released in 1995 and still listen to it 6 years later. It sounds as if it was recorded yesterday, fresh and sunny, which is rare with this kind of music. I own all of Pebbles' work and this one is definitly my favorite. This woman is gorgeous and possesses a wonderful voice. From the funky summer anthem "Like The Last Time" to the deep and haunting "Happy", this album is one of the best R'n'B-Soul album of the 90's. Pebs' version of "I Can't Help It " is, by far, the best i' ve ever heard. Other favorites include "Soul Replacement", "Angel" and the wonderful and moving ballad "Straight From My Heart". To finish, The design of the cd is really beautiful and the booklet photos are splendid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Graceful, mature vocals. Smooth delivery, September 8, 1999

This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
Pebbles is a fine talent who showed her artistry on Striaght from the Heart. While her previous two albums were more dance oriented, this album revealed her true voice. While I was disappointed that "Are You Ready" was not the same version released on radio and video, I was impressed by such releases as "Cant't Help It","Show Me" (my favorite single on the album), and "Angel". I bought this album the first week of its release and was disappointed when I found that sales were slow. Pebbs, this album was a masterpiece, I wish would reconsider coming back to music!!!!!!

This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
I love her voice and she is one of the most beautiful black women in the business. This is is a departure from her previous sound and most of it is very good. I was disappointed to find that the version of "Are You Ready" is not the same as the one played on radio. The radio version is much better! Why did this CD disappear and fail? Is Pebbles being conspired against?

what does become a 1980s diva? if your vanessa williams, a series of adult-contemporary albums and a stint on broadway erase your scandal-ladden past and you emerge a pop icon. if you're sa-fire, you attempt to maintain your career with a remake of "i will survive" for the _she-devil_ soundtrack before charting a new course as a diva salsera. and, if you're pebbles, you suffer poor label support as you attempt to sustain yourself as a new-jill artist. while _straight from the heart_ is not pebbles' greatest achievement, it does prove that, had the stars aligned differently, fate might have landed her a role as chita rivera's successor as the spider woman. produced to give the impression of a live performance in atlanta, _straight from the heart_ would have fared better in britain, where female vocalists are allowed a different range of expression. in the u.s., however, where the music industry is focused on the single, this highly-cohesive release was completely over-looked. the stand-out track from the album is "angel", an obvious dedication to a departed friend or family member. featuring a vocal frankness that recalls the "every woman" aspect of lisa lisa's "don't say goodbye" pebbles proves that sometimes less is more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational Disappointment, October 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Straight From My Heart (Audio CD)
Pebbles started out as a sexy dancing club type of woman who liked tight jeans and short shorts. She went on to become a minister. I think that transition shows in this album. It seems to be a lot more spiritual than her first two, and the message really does seem to be straight from her heart as the title implies. The problem is the music isn't hot. I bought this album because I got her first two and thought they were very hot. This album is nothing like the first two. She is known for hot upbeat songs like Backyard, Mercedes Boy, and Giving You The Benefit, as well as slow jams like Always and Love Makes Things Happen. There is nothing like any of those songs on this album. It sounded a lot like elevator music. It seems to drag and never really pick up. So, her heart was in the right place but it just doesn't seem like a Pebbles album and I would not have guessed it was if it didn't have her name and picture on it. If you prefer more toned down music than her first two then you might like this a lot.
