5.0 out of 5 stars Music for Real People, February 15, 2002
This review is from: Straight Talk (1992 Film) (Audio CD)
STRAIGHT TALK is a soundtrack of material, all by Dolly Parton, from the movie which stars Dolly. The soundtrack, from 1992, features some excellent songs in a long line of excellent music from Dolly. Take the reworking of her 1970's song "Light of a Clear Blue Morning", the original is more gospel like and very downtempo, whereas this one is an inspirational, uplifting, uptempo version of the song, which brings a smile to my face. The songs work with the movie, from the workers anthem of "Dirty Job", to the quirky "Straight Talk" which shows her fun personality, to the honest "Living A Lie", and more. Its more than just a soundtrack for a movie, its a soundtrack for life. A lot of people (myself included) could find something to relate to in these honest, simple songs about life and loss. Its also an excellent movie, and worth seeing. If that's what it takes to convince you to listen to this soundtrack, then go see it, because this music is excellent.

I have been looking for that remake of the song "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" for ages!!!! Dolly is the best female artist in my book, with Reba MeEntire a close second.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the Soundtrack!, November 14, 2003

Dolly's soundtrack to her movie is really good... I have a copy and so does my mom... Burning to Burn and and Livin' A lie are GREAT songs! I bet there are some people out there in dead end jobs, or relationships... They sacrificed everything to keep up appearances.. She sings about the pain that Shirlee was going through...

Straight Talk is a great song! I remember when she sang that on a Bob Hope Special at Amera Flora 92. Great song full of attitude and spunk! She cuts through the BS and straight to the point.

Light of a clear blue morning is an uplifting song.. No matter how bad things get, everything will be OK... This is a great album for those with an open mind.... I like it and I hope that you will to.

Although not one of Dolly Parton's better-known albums "Straight Talk" is a well- produced and well-written pop record. Being the kind of diverse artist she is it's nice that Dolly can release an album of easy listening tracks which is what she did with this release.

The "Straight Talk" soundtrack is from her 1991 movie of the same name and features 11 songs all written by Dolly. Highlights include the fun title track, her great remake of 1977's "Light of a Clear Blue Morning", and "Burning to Be Burned". My personal favorite from the album is the love song "Burned", a song I have always believed could be as big as "I Will Always Love You" if covered by the right artist. The song is beautifully written, has amazing words and chorus, and Dolly's vocals are impeccable. The song is done here as a duet with Les Taylor. Many think it's Luther Vandross as their voices sound very similar.

The soundtrack only went as high as #22 country and #138 pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Dolly a great deal..., May 7, 2000

I have been a fan of Dolly for many years, and followed her throughout her career. Straight Talk was a comedy all Dolly's own. She came to life in the movie, as she always does in her movies. Straight Talk is for everyone of every genre; very easy listening and comic with superb love ballads that only Dolly knows how to write. As the rest of her recordings, I give this an A+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Music, September 2, 2008

All the tracks on this CD may be sung by Dolly Parton but other than that they are all original songs. I've noticed that too many soundtracks have 10 or 12 so-called songs but they are just different versions of the same basic track. These songs are all worth listening to because all of them are different. Straight Talk

5.0 out of 5 stars Rediscovery, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Straight Talk (1992 Film) (Audio CD)
I bought this soundtrack when it came out and loved it as I do all of Dolly's releases. I watched the movie this morning and rediscovered how much I loved the film and music. There is no one else like Dolly and I think she is the only one who could've pulled off that role.
