Book Description

January 20, 1999
Straight Talk About Betrayal: A Self-Help Guide for Couples, by licensed therapist Donna R. Bellafiore, is a small gem of a book that empowers the couple whose partnership has been severely tested by infidelity or other major violation of trust. Concise and balanced, Straight Talk About Betrayal fosters partners' sensitivity to each other's pain and confusion as they interact and move through recovery.

Bellafiore's summarized stages of recovery reduce self-doubts and uncertainties. Her practical steps help partners maintain personal health and stability, while equipping them with tools to manage stress and conflict. Tear-out evaluation sections help partners individually assess the strengths and weaknesses of their relationship.

Advocating the uniqueness of each partner's-and each couple's-recovery experience, Straight Talk About Betrayal presents a new, pragmatic view of the age-old problem of betrayal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good things come in small packages!!!!!, January 25, 2004

This book is tiny, and can be finished in a snap. I found that to be a Positive when asking my wife (who had the affair) to read it with me. It's not overwhelming. What I especially appreciated was that it offered a view of each person's perspective and did so in a non judgmental, matter of fact manner. It has been frustrating trying to find a resource to help work through a tough situation, when most of the books available are written specifically for Women whose Husbands had cheated. This book did not make any assumptions and works for either situation, whether it was the husband or wife who had the affair. I see it only briefly mentioned in the description above, but the end of the book is a helpful questionnaire to aid both parties to evaluate their feelings and spark a USEFUL discussion about, "Where do we go from here?" I wouldn't wish the situation on anyone, but if it did happen, this book would be the one I would recommend first.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good overview, July 27, 2002

This is a good "bite size" pocket healing guide for affairs. I like the fact it covered both the cheater and cheated's perspectives. It's a good read for someone who's so numb and shellshocked that reading a full length book is just too daunting.

My husband (who had the affair) and I were making no progress on moving ahead and really felt there was no hope for our marriage despite our best efforts and with professional help. I really thought I was going crazy. Then I searched on Amazon for books on surviving an affair and bought this one. It was fantastic! It was like reading a story written about our experiences! My husband and read the book together and finally agreed on something--the book is good! We understand each other's pain and I think we have a very good chance of saving our marriage. I recommend it highly!
