This book was given to me as a 20 something single man who hadn't thought through a lot of what Dr. Dobson discusses. What he articulates in his book with clarity and conviction is what I felt in my heart to be the values that should have been driving my life all along, but were not. I was extremely influenced my the mainstream culture, was selfish, and not leading the life that God had created me to live. Dobson was the only voice speaking to me the words that I knew in my heart to be true and taking the mainstream, self-centered culture apart and showing it for all its short-comings. Throughout school and in my early professional life I had repressed so much because I could find no one in my peer group that would affirm what was in my heart so I put on the values of those around me, but it was leading me to greater and greater morose. Dobson's words were there to lift me up and encourage me. When you read Straight Talk to Men it is my prayer that it will reach your heart too and put you on a path to walking with your loving heavenly Father. Thanks.

i just adore dr. dobson!! this is a wonderful book... i read it first... very influencial, insightful, and informative!! he makes wonderful points... then again he always does!

I was looking forward to reading this book because I have been trying to improve as a husband in the Biblical model and was seeking additional guidance for what God's purpose is for a husband. So when I saw the title and read the cover, I was excited to hear someone of Dobson's caliber truly speak out on how a man should truly live and behave.

This book, however, did little to encourage me along the way. There were definitely some parts that were very helpful but not to the level that I expected with a title of "Straight Talk to Men". I mean, there were many sections that were written to women?!?!? Not sure how those parts qualified as being part of this text, good advice, but not for this book.

I did recognize this problem early on while reading the book and still completed it because I found it interesting and entertaining but not for the purpose I originally was looking for. It contained a lot of very good stories about raising kids and being good parents. He includes many references to additional resources and quite often reprints articles or letters others have written which also makes it interesting.

To summarize, this is a good book, but not if you are looking for something specifically geared towards men and with a true emphasis on how the Bible commands us to behave as a husband and father. It is a good book to read for a general overview of a parents influence on their children with a slight emphasis on the man's role.

I recommend this book to all men and women! Young and old.
