Editorial Reviews

Aggressive, meticulous, passionate, and righteous - all distinguishing traits that have come to symbolize the fundamentals of metal/hardcore pioneers PRO-PAIN. Since their crushing 1992 NAIRD nominated debut album Foul Taste Of Freedom, PRO-PAIN have become a staple in the diets of heavy music listeners around the globe. Their successful and enviable career has perpetually prospered throughout its course, and yet they still manage to find room to improve, and more importantly, impress.

Their latest and 13th studio album Straight To The Dome is everything that the title suggests. It's 100 percent PRO-PAIN in its purest sense and truest form. The album features 11 seething tracks of hardcore metal fury, all delivered masterfully and with the bands signature New York sound skillfully intact. Songs like the title track, Nothing Left, and Bitter Pill, set a blistering pace, while Zugabe! and A Good Day To Die proves that the bands recent years of experimentation were not in vain.

Band front man Gary Meskil states, We intended to make an old school PRO-PAIN album with this one, and I think that this is perhaps our most sonically brutal effort since The Truth Hurts. Having said that, the album does have a few tasteful melodic moments here and there, which in my opinion contribute to its depth and diversity.

Straight To The Dome was recorded at Little Creek Studio in Gelterkinden, Switzerland and was produced, engineered, and mixed by V.O. Pulver (GURD).

There are 3 things one can count on in life. Death, taxes, and solid releases from Pro-Pain. This album is of course no exception. These guys have churned out their eleventh (I think) solid, ass-kicking, aggressive, temple throbbing, boot to the head. They never cease to amaze me, each album is so solid, and yet entertaining. I wouldn't say they are ground-breakers, as I sometimes with recent albums have trouble differentiating one from another, but this one is kick ass and I think it stands above the last 2 or 3. They still don't take shit from anyone or anything, and if they've got a beef with anything going in the world, they put it on an album, which I really dig. Great album.

Pro Pain nails it again, right in your forehead. These guys are still giving lessons to any wannabe hard bands out there. Pure Pro Pain and excellent. If you think this is their best yet, I will not argue. It is extremely good.

Pro-Pain is likely the most underrated band in heavy music. Gary continues to kill on vocals, the band is tight, and the sound demands attention. My favorites from this album are "Payback," "Sucks to be you," and "A good day to die." If you like no nonsense heavy music, pick up this album.

You know what you're getting with Meskil, who is somewhat of a political prophet. In this case, it's another installment of good to very good songs in his trademark growl, which is part and parcel of the usual range of Pro-Pain songs from average to very good. Never great, but never bad, either, always dependable, always reliable.
