4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent explanation of effects of PTSD for young people, October 15, 1998
By A Customer
I treat many young people who suffer PTSD and who have tried to cope with the effects of trauma through the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Of particular help were the sections "un-demonizing" PTSD as a normal set of responses to traumatic experiences and the section involving the neurological and biochemical changes which occur and may endure as a result of trauma. These are helpful explanations for teens who need to feel in charge of themselves in their unpredictable and often terrifying worlds. I do not hesitate to give a copy of this book to young people in my practice where appropriate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one..., September 20, 2007

(REAL NAME)
One of the most comprehensive books I've read on the subject. The only resource I've found that has a chapter dedicated to the effects on children w/ PARENTS who have PTSD. Compassionate in it's decription of the effects of trauma. Several varied real life examples of people suffering from trauma so you can see you are not alone. Smaller book - doesn't overwhelm. Targeted toward youth but incredibly helpful for anyone with this condition. Written a decade ago but was ahead of it's time when written. A gem of a resource...
