Book Description

June 23, 2005
Stop aches and pains with this effective new therapeutic exercise plan.

Who doesn't suffer from chronic aches and pains in the neck, back, shoulders, knees, or elsewhere? In Straighter, Stronger, Leaner, Longer, medical exercise specialist and personal trainer Renie Daniels presents her fullbody strengthening and alignment program for rehabilitating injuries and strengthening and toning bodies. She explains why proper alignment is the key to a strong, healthy body, and how our daily habits, from sitting at a desk at work to carrying a baby on one hip all day to spending long hours sitting behind the wheel of a car, can contribute to muscle weaknesses and misalignments, leading to aches and pains.

Straighter, Stronger, Leaner, Longer will help readers find relief by showing them how to assess their own posture and movements, which may be causing pain, and by providing them with a personalized exercise program to treat problem areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Manual for Rehabilitation and Improved Health, February 18, 2006
By

This review is from: Straighter, Stronger, Leaner, Longer: A Head-to-Toe Strengthening, Stretching, and Pain-RelievingProgram (Mass Market Paperback)
Having had several joint related injuries from years of weightlifting and triathlon training, I've built a small library on endurance sports, sports medicine and physical therapy. Some books have been helpful for remedying some aspects of an overuse injury, but never has one put it all together into a whole body approach. Renee Daniels is a medical exercise specialist whose approach and method are simple and effective.

After religiously adhering to her 30-minute workouts for two months, my whole body feels more aligned and so much better. I truly feel straighter, stronger, leaner and longer. My annoying knee-cap pain, lower back tightness/weakness and impinged left shoulder have improved tremendously. I feel like my whole body has shifted to work more optimally.

Renee covers each major joint (ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder, elbows, wrist and neck) in just enough detail for anyone to understand, includes some real-life examples of how she has helped past clients and provides specific exercise routines for each. Towards the end of the book, Renee sums up her approach with two, 30-minute workouts that strengthen and align the entire body for overall health and fitness.

A fantastic book!

This review is from: Straighter, Stronger, Leaner, Longer: A Head-to-Toe Strengthening, Stretching, and Pain-RelievingProgram (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a bit skeptical and cautious about most fad exercise programs (like pilates, yoga, etc.) because they weren't created by medical specialists who understand the details of how the body works. I bought this book because it looked like the author knew this information when putting her program together. This lady really knows her stuff from the inside out. I appreciate how this book carefully explains how the body is put together (in very simple terms) and which muscles each exercise works. Believe me, you can feel each specified muscle or muscle group being worked during the exercise! Be careful not to overdo an exercise the first time through or you will learn your anatomy better than you want to (with sore muscles pointing the way).

The previous review really covers all the other important positives of this book. I've only been using this exercise program for a week now and already feel so much better.

I do have one small nit-pick: Almost all of the explanations and pictures of the exercises were very clear and easy to follow. However, one exercise, I still can't figure out. It would be helpful if there had been another picture showing the middle stage for that. Since there's another exercise after that one which is easy to follow and works the same muscles, it doesn't really matter in the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stretching For Pain-Relieving and Good Health, December 20, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This health and wellness book is great as it teaches stretching and fitness as a wonderful method of relieving pains and creating general improved blood circulation throughout the body, and for ensuring general good health. It is unbeatable when it comes to the area of gentle exercises without overlaboring the body with rigorous exercises. Beautiful for busy people and even the elderly.
