5.0 out of 5 stars George Strait's Best Complete Album, October 24, 2004
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
Other than legends such as Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, most country artists have always been more about putting out hit singles rather than cohesive albums that are consistently good from beginning to end. George Strait is no exception to the rule. This disc, however, features the strongest material of Strait's stellar career, and there is little, if any, filler on it at all

Though the album is loaded with early hits such as "Amarillo By Morning," "Fool-Hearted Memory," "Marina del Rey," and "A Fire I Can't Put Out," there are at least three other songs on it that could easily have been Top Ten records: "I Can't See Texas From Here," "Heartbroke," and my personal all-time favorite Strait track, "Honky-Tonk Crazy." "Steal Of The Night" and "Lover In Disguise" don't have the same kind of power next to the other tracks, but they are good nonetheless.

This is a young, hungry George Strait at his best: raw, pure honky-tonk from a gifted performer. An essential recording for any Strait fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums, August 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
Strait from the heart is a classic, this I think personally is the album the boasted George Straits country music career. It contains some of his greatest songs ever. Amarillo by morning is even on this one which is a classic. A fire I cant put out is on it. And it contains his first number one hit Fool hearted memory. Marina del ray is one of the other reasons why to buy it. The real stealer here may not be the classics it may be the album songs really, if you love George Strait music then you will really love Honky tonk crazy, and a song which could have easily been a hit The only thing I have left also own one the rare self written songs that George Strait wrote himself I cant see texas from here, and own not to familar classics like Lover in disguise, and Heartbroke. Every song on the album could have been country hits. If you had to pick one weak song on the album you could pick Steal of the night its not bad or anything its catchy but its not a usual George Strait song. All I can say is the whole album is a masterpiece of George Straits music career it would be impossible for a George Strait lover of music to miss this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars AS GOOD THEN AS HE IS NOW!, February 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
One thing about George Strait in retrospective is that it's difficult to hear much change in his early music and his current offerings. It's almost like he hit the road running and has never slowed down.

Some have accused him of having too many songs. Funny. Mozart had the same problem in his day and I suspect, from a Country Western standpoint, that we will be listening to George Strait music for decades after he is gone.

While STRAIT FROM THE HEART is one of George Strait's earliest albums it is as listenable today as it was when it climbed the charts with such classic hits as FOOL HEARTED MEMORY, MARINA DEL RAY and AMARILLO BY MORNING.

Whether you're new to Strait's music or an old fan like me, STRAIT FROM THE HEART will become a favorite.

Douglas McAllister

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEGININNING OF A GREAT CAREER, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
This is the CD that made George: It is an incredible CD, classics like "Marina Del Ray", "A Fire I Can't Put Out", "Heartbroke", "Steal Of The Night", "I Can't See Texas From Here", "Amarillo By Morning", and "Honky Tonk Crazy" speak for themselves. This is without question one of his best CDs, but NOT his best. There is nothing negative I can say, it just does not have a particular favorite song of mine, say like "Something Special" or "The Road Less Traveled".

This is one excellent CD that should be in any country fan's collection, EASY 5 STARS.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good early record by George Strait, November 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
A early release from the well known country cowboy. This is his very early days just getting in the Nashville buisness. Very listenable all the way through no drag songs at all every song is upbeat and really with it. Although I do believe this is before Mr Strait started really having a hand in what he sings here. If George Strait had the choice do we all think he would record a song like Lover in Disguise today now that he gets to choose his music today? Also remember this is during the popular days of crossover country where the music was really losing its mark and heart. Standouts are some of his most popular songs ever like Fool Hearted memory, Marina del Ray, and Amarillo by morning, and A Fire I can't put out. The rest of the album looks like crossover attempt music but still very good like The Only thing I have left, and Honky Tonk Crazy. Another goodie is his only written song on a true album called I can't see texas from here that is a great song. Many great songs buy it and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars By far his best, November 3, 2000
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
George Strait was the first of the new wave of country artists presenting an updated version of country to a younger generation. He also had a large crossover appeal which also made him popular among traditionalists. Strait From the Heart is a classic - almost every track is catchy and infectious. From the opening track, Fool Hearted Memory, to the very end it is difficult to find a low point - every track is timeless. The only low point is the poor sound quality on a few of the tracks, especially Steal of the Night, but this is small beer compared to the feel good impact of this album. If you've always dismissed country as redneck or hillbilly music you need to buy this CD. George Strait is the real thing and has an appeal to even the most hardened cynic.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential for any true music fan, August 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
The second album from George Strait makes him the ledgend that he is. With the CLASSICS such as Amarillo by Morning, Fool Hearted Memory, and Marina Del Ray it is sure to become a favorite but the best may be the exceptional album cuts. Any fan of his will love such selections as Honkey Tonk Crazy and The Only Thing That I Have Left (my personal favorite George Strait song). This is definately a cd that i ALWAYS leave in my car because i never get tired of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of the smooth man from Texas..., February 12, 2011
This review is from: Strait From the Heart (Audio CD)
...you simply must own this album. Like many people, the first time I heard of George Strait was when I heard "Amarillo By Morning" on the radio. It's off this album which I immediately ran out and bought. This is a record anyone that calls themselves a George Strait fan should own. It's great! I see singles up there, so I'll review a couple of lesser known songs I love.

"Honky Tonk Crazy" is a great song about a guy who just needs a night out. It's been a rough day, and he's letting the honky-tonk carry it away. I've been there.

"Marina Del Rey" is a fabulous song about a summer love. I think it deserves a lot more attention than it gets. It's not George's most country song...it actually has a little pop feel. I love it, though.

I hope you love this record as much as I do.
