To be honest, the slightly lackluster cover had me expecting this book to perhaps be a little dreary. It's a shame there is no 'Look Inside' option on this title as that couldn't be further from the truth! This book is wonderfully presented and is packed with beautiful full-colour images of Straits Chinese homes and artifacts. Each of the chapters details a room in the traditional Straits Chinese house, delving into not just the architecture and decor, but the cultural practices and history connected to it. The book is also dotted with the personal memoirs of older Baba Nyonyas which adds a fascinating insight into life at the time. A pleasure to read and highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the subject.
