5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD, September 9, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stranded in Suburbia (Audio CD)
I also first heard Melissa McClelland on Degrassi: The Next Generation. "Rooftop" is one of those haunting songs that really hits you in the gut. It was such a beautiful song that I sought out the Orange record label to see if I could find out more about her. I was surprised to discover that they had all the songs on this CD available onsite for anyone to listen to. It became the website I always had open on my computer so that I could listen to this entire CD over and over.

I ended up buying a copy even thought it's an import and I haven't regretted it. I really love this CD.

"Rooftop" is still my favorite song on this CD. The acoustic guitar is simply played so that it's strikingly beautiful while at the same time a bit stark, which goes along with mood of the lyrics. Melissa McClelland's vocals on this song just float along the simple melody in a way that makes this song have an intensity of feeling that really gets to me whenever I listen to it. I tend to stick this song onto playlists with any type of music and it just fits. I always want to hear it, no matter what my mood is at the moment.

"Good as Gold" is a bit of a lively pop song, but without all the trappings of too much "stuff" in the song. It's a fun listen.

"White Lies" has a bit of an edge to it, but still a nice pop feel to it.

"Pretty Blue" is another pop song with a fun melody that I really, really like.

"Jaded" is one of my favorite songs from this CD. It's got a great hook (well, I think it's a hook). It's the kind of a song that gets stuck in your brain and you find yourself singing it to yourself.

"Glimpse into Hell" is a pretty little song that fits in well with the rest of the songs on this CD.

"Factory" is one of those songs that you find yourself nodding your head along to it. It has a faint bluesy feel to it.

"Picture Postcard" is another of my favorite songs from this CD. It has a neat little acoustic guitar riff and a chorus with a nice hook. It's one of those songs that when it comes up in my playlist, I always notice it.

"Encinitas Rainstorm" is another one of those songs that always has me bopping around.

"Little Birds" is a danceable song in which the lyrics and melody serve to make it unique and memorable.

"Blue Farewell" is probably my second favorite song on this CD. It's another soft song that has the prettiest acoustic guitar in the background, a haunting melody, lyrics that set a mood, and vocals that just cut right through it all.

"Smoke Signals" is the song I find the hardest to write about it. I reminds me a bit of a gypsy song. It fits in well with the CD, but it's not one of my favorites. I usually only listen to it when I listen to the entire CD.

"Jaded" [Ogilve/Fu Remix] is a remix of this song. It's got more of a dance feel to it, but it also sounds a bit spacey. I like this version of this song as well. The vocals are mixed a bit lower, too. (The original version sounds more like a pop song a la Michelle Branch or something like that, but without the drums mixed too loud.)

I really like this CD.

I first heard Melissa McClelland when I wandered over to the Orange Record Label's website where I was greeted by "White Lies" on their Orange Radio. It caught my ear immediately and after listening to the few other songs of hers on the site, I decided to purchase the entire CD. I'm so glad I did!! Her songs are catchy, she is a great story teller, and her voice is pure and flawless. This CD covers a range of styles that will appeal to almost anyone. I recently had the opportunity to see Melissa live and meet her, which sealed the deal for me... she is captivating on stage, and a beautiful person inside and out. Stranded in Suburbia captures her spirit and talent in a wonderful collection of powerful songs. The bonus features on the CD-Rom are great too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, A really good song too, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Stranded in Suburbia (Audio CD)
I first heard a song of hers on Degrassi The Next Generation. It was so catchy and I really loved it. It was in the episode Time Stands Still Part 2, and I recently found out the song was called Rooftop. It is now one of my favorite songs ever.
