4.0 out of 5 stars Unnoticed But Good Alt Rock, November 23, 2003
By
BG "glanceb" (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strange Appointments (Audio CD)
Northern Virginia/Washington DC based 51 Peg has put out as good of music as anything you'll hear on the radio. Perhaps the most unique thing musically about the band is that they do not use a bass guitar. Most of the bass line is either made up by the guitars or the drums. Their sound is electronica-ish and the other reviewer who said NIN meets Depeche Mode is a fair evaluation. Live they put on a polished performance, what they sound like on the album is what they sound like when they're on stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely awesome., March 5, 2005
This review is from: Strange Appointments (Audio CD)
I can find no other words for this band or album other than "completely awesome." I've been into 51 peg since I was 16 years old. There are not many local bands that I will listen to four hours on end, but this album is just amazing. It's emotion filled and raw. There are so many experimental things with a synthasizer on this album that make it really great. If you love industurial music please do yourself a favor and buy this album! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation- These Guys Are Awesome, January 12, 2001
This review is from: Strange Appointments (Audio CD)
*2007 Edit- These guys are from the DC area, but I found out about them while living in Ohio (back when I wrote this review- my location has since changed), so they don't really seem like a "local band" to me, even though that's exactly what they are (they're great live!). But they are the only "local band" I've heard that I really, really love. *End 2007 Edit

This is sort of like Depeche Mode meets Nine Inch Nails with a twist of Tool (I think you'd like 51 Peg if you listen to Marilyn Manson, too, they are sort of glam/goth-rock as well). Apology is very rocky and the sound gets you hooked (this was the song I heard and, like I said, it got me hooked). Tunes like Conditioner are a bit more quiet yet still eerie. Conditioned Addendum is like industro-goth-electronic. Destiny Sponge is kinda the soft side of the band but it's such an awesome tune, really pretty and thought-out, as is Plasticity, rocky like Conditioned Addendum and Apology. There are about 5 or 6 more songs and if you even remotely like NIN or DM or Tool get this CD! Try 'em out!
