5.0 out of 5 stars One of William's best...
I have Strange Cargo 2, 3 and best of and the *disappointing* Pieces In A Modern Style. This is my favorite out of all of them. It's very upbeat and energetic. Montauk Point kicks my butt every time, and I love the guitar work on El Ninjo. Just amazing electronic music here, really. If you can find this in stores, it's well worth the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great listen, but not essential
This is a good disc (3 1/2 stars). I've had it on everyday since purchasing it some days ago; still, I can feel it frequently reaching, but not always grasping. I don't regret purchasing it and I do enjoy it, but I would have liked Orbit to have gone a little further. If you have the money to spare and are into Strange Cargo, buy it; however, if you are on a tight...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hardly available, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
This has alawys been one of my favorite William Orbit Albums. I owned Strange Cargo I, II, and III, as well as Hinterland. About two years ago, all my CD's got stolen. That sucked... but as I rebuilt my collection, thanks to insurance money, I made my decisions carefully. When it finally came to William Orbit, I stuck with II and Hinterland. I absolutely respect and love every track on Hinterland. A couple years later, I have rebuilt the collection I decided needed to be rebuilt. I now own every Orbit album, as well as every Orton album In short, Hinterland is pretty cool and holds many tracks that should be recognized.

4.0 out of 5 stars Orbit's ambience, December 20, 1998

This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
It' s a lovely album, filled with clever little bits of production - I guess that's why he produced Madonna's latest effort.

Graceful, sweeping melodies and interesting use of effects make this a Smoker's delight - light up, lay back and enjoy the trip...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure mind candy...., June 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
A fascinating techno-pop album with a variety of brain candy for almost anyone who enjoys this type of music. All tracks were delightful. Those especially noteworthy you will find on the fist half of the CD. Among my absolute favorites were Hulaville, ElNino and MontokPoint. Hulaville is snappy with a playful but deliberate multi-dimensional direction, While ElNino is calm with a definite southwestern mood, evoking memories of a fond Arizona vacation spent near the Painted Desert. I was especially delighted to finally locate, after several months of shopping, this CD at Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply...the best LP i have ever purchased., June 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
If i could say anything more about this LP...i dont think i could stop. It is the creation upon which i base all other musical journeys. A good friend of mine introduced me to William Orbits music a few years ago...and i just cant get enough of it. I sure wish i knew where she was, because we shared this music together as we did great ideas and heart-felt stories. I have had this LP since its release...and i have replaced it twice already. Loaning it to friends..and just plain ol' wearing it out seems to be the case. If i could only own one CD, it would truly be this one. I cant imagine what William Orbit could do to top this rythmical journey into the musical depths of space...but what ever it is...when ever it comes...it will become another treasure to cherish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential 90's Chill Out, March 9, 2010
This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
This was a very regular fixture on my CD player for many years following its original release. Since I moved to pure digital streaming (via the excellent Squeezebox and Transporter) my listening habits have lacked the "diggin in the crates" element of picking out your favourite CDs, and maybe I haven't spent enough time properly re-building that library from my original "essential" albums as playlists.

Nonetheless, with the recent release of his new solo album, My Oracle Lives Uptown, this reminded me of the good times and StrangeCargoHinterland has been metaphorically dusted off and found its way back to the top of the pile.

A timeless, funky yet ambient slice of electronica that will still sound fresh to new ears.

For audiophiles out there with the ability to play studio quality audio files, check out [...] for William Orbit's latest solo effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Near Perfect Disc, November 25, 1998

I'm a photographer, and I always play this CD when I'm shooting. It never fails to set the right mood, and I'm constantly recommending it to people. I'm glad to see William Orbit get his due with his production credit on the new Madonna CD. I also recommend his Strange Cargo III CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning mental journey. Audio art for the mind., October 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Strange Cargo: Hinterland (Audio CD)
This project never sounds the same. One hears different sounds each time it is played. Filled with catchy melodies and techno twists, this is the ultimate in winding-down sound after a hectic day on the job.

We want more from this inovative artist.
