Heartfelt Journey,
By Linda Lee Welch (Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Strange Currencies (Paperback)
Daniel Sendecki's poetry collection traces his travels through the East, from China to India with lots of stops and 'Strange Currencies' to deal with on the way. I love the title and its reference to funny money, as well as the values we place on things, how we spend our time and our lives, and how others spend theirs. The layout is superb. Sendecki starts each poem with a photograph of the place and the coins he found there. Then, there are the words. In Six Exposures,he takes word snapshots: "6/ In Siem Reap a girl gets married/ and she is so afraid and sad that she gets/ up on the back of a water buffalo and cries." This is beautiful stuff. |
