Let's Get Right to the Point---It's Great!!!,
By
This review is from: Strange Dreams (Audio CD)
Remember "Looking In," which was arguably the best Savoy Brown album ever? Every cut seemed to flow seamlessly into the next, and Kim's blues/boogie sensibilities were married to an introspective, jazzy feel which made the most of Lonesome Dave's vocals. Well, folks, that's what we have on "Strange Dreams." Simmonds has assembled his tightest band in years, and Dave Malachowski's tasty rhythm playing, Gerry Sorrentino's funky bass, and Dennis Cotton's drumming (and his particularly fine percussion playing) all make the material shine. In this opus, the individual songs, not extended jams, are the stars, and "When it Rains," "(Hard Time) Believing in You," and the title track are all standouts. Kim's playing, of course, is excellent and his singing is the best it's ever been! He now sounds like a combination of Robert Cray and an old rockabilly singer (Gene Vincent?). And if you love blues, check out the great cover of Blind Boy Fuller's "Meat Shaking Woman," or the impassioned "Can't Let You Go." SB has entered the new millenium with a vengeance! Get it today!

Kim Simmonds-solo with Savoy Brown,
By
This review is from: Strange Dreams (Audio CD)
This album is a great one-Kim Simmonds handles most of the vocals and lead guitar- I recently saw them live--and if you love blues-rock with alot of blues influence-this is the album to get. A lot of guitar solos-but not flashy- played with alot of feeling-this is their best album in years--It has a permanant place on my must listen to list for blues thirst. GET IT NOW -before it becomes hard to find- it is not available everywhere due to I guess poor promotion.

Savoy Brown Fans.... GET THIS CD!,

I caught the band this past week on tour here in Texas and this is the best lineup by far that Kim has put together in years. They shine on each instrument and it shows on Kim's face when he plays. This is top-notch group of musicians that all bring out the best in each other..Dave really compliments Kim on guitar and is a virtuoso in his own right.. Dennis Cotton on drums? Man, is that cat ever putting down a beat.. and Gerry on bass? SOLID, SOLID, SOLID! Kim is playing better than he has in years and this album proves that. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of this CD, you won't be dissapointed.

Best In A While!,

Savoy Brown is back with their best release in a number of years. This CD features a relaxed Kim Simmonds on vocals and guitar playing a set of top-notch original tunes, with the lone exception of Blind Boy Fuller's "Meat Shaking Woman". Kim Simmonds guitar playing is subtle, yet full of emotion and never over the top. You won't find any SRV impersonator on this solid blues rock CD just original, playing from the heart. That alone is reason to buy it.

best savoy album since"make me sweat".kims guitar-playing is stunning, fluid and thoughtful throughout, with a particular tour-de-force on "pain of love",the standout track.the last four tunes are all savoy classics, and somewhat surprisingly, kim carries the vocals more than adequately!bring it onhome to the u.k.,kim!

As I listen to this cd, It gives the Savoy Brown image a complete turn around. That of a good one. And let me say that this lineup is great, which I never expect anything or anyone Kim puts behind the scene to be anything less than a mastered musician.Mr. Kim simmonds has worked very hard to accomplish what you see here, and the rest of the band Dave,Gerry,Dennis certainly are not ignorant to the fact of music.every band member puts forth more than their share, And that is why whenever a new piece from Savoy Brown is put forth you can be sure of two things backed by a warranty. (sound and quality.) Kim will not settle for anything less of these two standards. from the meat shaking woman herself I love you Kim your friend in the windy city. Judith

One of the best,

This is the only Savoy Brown album where every track is good. They've rocked-it-up a bit and the opening track, "When It Rains" reminds me of Robert Cray when he's rocking-it-up. It's tough to keep the music working for 40 years but Savoy Brown has done it.

New SAVOY BROWN best in years!,

First let me say I am a huge Kim Simmonds fan and would buy anything to hear his playing, especially on slide. Imagine my utter delight to discover he is now handling more of the vocals (and not too shabbily either) and surrounding himself with the best band line-up in years. "STRANGE DREAMS" is the best from the reincarnated Savoy Brown in at least a decade not including Kim's fine solo albums which I highly recommend. My favorite song is "Memphis Last Night" because of the fine solo by Kim. All of the songs are first-rate. Not a bad one of the lot. Buy this CD. It is the one Savoy Brown fans have been yearning for for ages! Now get to work, Kim, on another fine acoustic solo album! Albums like this may yet bring the Blues back in vogue. Here's hoping!!!

While Kim Simmons has probably played with everybody who can play an instrument, this is clearly one of his best CD's ever. Every song is worth listening to. With some airplay this would be a big seller for the band.
