5.0 out of 5 stars something new and different
i heard about this band because they are from Detroit and i heard them on the radio here. I first downloaded the 2 mp3s from their web site and was hooked..the song "Strange Generation" is really fun and could be a hit single, but we'll see, they're just starting to promote this album in Europe and then the States will start hearing these guys soon after...

Detroit's Dirty Americans comes from a city with a long time honored tradition of rock/hard rock/heavy metal. From Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, to Alice Cooper & Iggy Pop, to Ted Nugent, & then back to rock with Bob Seeger. Detroit has produced some of the best American rock & roll, not to mention Motown.

i heard about this band because they are from Detroit and i heard them on the radio here. I first downloaded the 2 mp3s from their web site and was hooked..the song "Strange Generation" is really fun and could be a hit single, but we'll see, they're just starting to promote this album in Europe and then the States will start hearing these guys soon after. overall, the album rocks! i'm a big fan of Queens of the Stone Age, Clutch, Monster Magnet and other hard rock and 'stoner' bands...these guys fit right in with that group, i wouldn't call them "alternative rock" because they don't sing whiny songs and they have more of a classic rock sound than anything 3 Doors Down or Default has ever done. Although i see the producer for this disc was Paul Ebersold...he produced the huge album by 3 Doors Down ("the better life")...so that says alot about this record...excellent producer...excellent production...excellent album. Best songs: Burn You Down, Deep End, Way To Go, Chico.

I heard an interview of the Dirty Americans...they were talking about the Detroit music scene (i.e. garage rock - White Stripes, Von Bondies, etc.) and they said "we're not part of that scene or any scene and they don't like us anyways" - so if you're sick of the garage rock sound and love hard and groovin' rock, then you will like this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dirty Americans deliver the goods the old fashioned way, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Strange Generation (Audio CD)
THE BAND: Myron (vocals), Jeff Piper (guitars), Patrick Bever (bass), Jeremiah Pilbeam (drums & percussion). Hailing from Detroit, MI.

THE DISC: (2005) 13 tracks clocking in at just over 49 minutes. Included with the disc is a 4-page foldout containing song titles/credits, song lyrics, band photos, and thank you's. The case itself is a tri-fold with colorful 70's style artwork. Recorded at 747 Studios, Memphis, TN - producer Paul Ebersold (3 Doors Down, Sister Hazel, Skillet, Third Day). All songs written by Dirty Americans. The disc is 'enhanced' - featuring a quick bio and "Strange Generation" video. Label - Liquor & Poker Music / Roadrunner Records.

COMMENTS: The Dirty Americans deliver straight ahead (slightly) blues infused rock and roll. Some of these songs are right out of the 1970's. Other songs are sandwiched somewhere between the likes of Lenny Kravitz and the Queens Of the Stone Age. The album kicks off with the hard driving "No Rest". It continues with their first (minor) hit "Car Crash"... with its catchy, poppy, toe-tapping hook. The title track is fun and fast-paced as well. As much as the Dirty American's can rock, they can also slow it down. Check out the bluesy heartfelt "Give It Up", "Deep End", and the album closer "We Were Young". I find myself listening to the whole disc - without need to hit the skip button. As many highlights there are featuring the electric guitar, there are some equally beautiful acoustic moments here too. Production is crisp and fllawless. Living in Arizona, I haven't heard too much about the Dirty Americans of late - here's hoping the band can get a break and they catch on! Looking for new music - give this a try (4.5 stars).

5.0 out of 5 stars R U A DIRTY AMERICAN????????, May 3, 2005
Damn, ain't it about time we get back to the basics of good ole RocknRoll??In the beginning I wasn't quite sure these guys were gonna kick it enough to satisfy an old time rocknroller but thier new stuff is totalling jumping!Anyone who is old enough to remember the great 80's bands has got to get there hands on this one.
Takes you back and totally lays you out with appearance of the definition of (GROUP ROCK)all over again. The songs rip thru your head like a drill on diamonds. It's not just an artist; it's a full blown band. One could not make it without the other.Well worth the money spent with mulitiple outlets of availability which make this one easy to find.
Take a break, spend a few on this one for your collection and enjoy the hours you spend listening. It won't be a one night stand! You will find yourself to be overly addicted to the new pleasures you are about to receive.JUST DO IT!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Future of Rock, March 22, 2005
By
Brandon (Chesterfield, MI USA) - See all my reviews
Now, I may be a little biased being from Detroit; however, I believe that The Dirty Americans are the wave of the future for Rock n' Roll. They are a very good sounding band and have some awesome chemistry. From the first song, No Rest, you are drawn into this new world of rock filled with rythems that make you want to dance. The second song, Car Crash, is a local single and has had some decent radio play, and is one of those songs you just can't help but crank up the radio, and the title track Strange Generation is a great party song. The whole album flows pretty well, and considering this is the bands first U.S. release, other then the EP ...kiss 'em all goodbye, the album is sure to kick start this talented band. The only complaint I have is the fact that a lot of the songs get repetitive. Non-the-less, this is a spectacular debut for a band that is sure to one day dominate the airwaves. Silvertide and The Dirty Americans are the beginning of the rebirth of rock into the mainstream. Good sounds, and they just make you want to party. I highly recommend purchasing this album, you won't regret it.

Detroit Rock is back baby!

3 1/2 stars = Very Good

Detroit's Dirty Americans comes from a city with a long time honored tradition of rock/hard rock/heavy metal. From Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, to Alice Cooper & Iggy Pop, to Ted Nugent, & then back to rock with Bob Seeger. Detroit has produced some of the best American rock & roll, not to mention Motown.

Dirty Americans fall closest to Ted Nugent out of the above listed bands. Their guitar dominated & rock hard. Their first album "Strange Generation" kind of reminds me of G n' R, if they were from Detroit. It is an album filled with gritty 70's style hard rock/heavy metal. Dirty, grinding, & real. Energy runs through these songs that spell out loud & proud, we're a Detroit band, & we honor our rock n' roll forefathers of Detroit. It is a very good album, a sincere album, but short of being great. But it demonstrates that Dirty Americans may have the potential for greatness. Only time & a willing audience for the shrinking market for this kind of music this band makes will tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strange Generation ~ Dirty Americans, January 4, 2007

This is not historically my type of music, but I love the album. I love the group, just wish they had not changed their name from Workhorse Movement. They are an excellent group, and appear to be getting mentored by some of the classic GREATS. Freedom (Jeff Piper) is one of the best guitarists this country has seen in a long time. It's great to see young men from my home town make it. Doesn't hurt to be related to one of them either.

4.0 out of 5 stars The new classic rock is here., June 21, 2005
The Good
The fuzzy guitar riffage on "No Rest" has a nice bounce to it, especially when it's combined with the pulsing drum beats. Myron's vocals are smooth yet scratchy, kind of like Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl. Dirty American's liken love to a "Car Crash"; you leave me bloody/take all my money. The track is defined by its catchy guitar lick. The bridge helps build interest for the incoming guitar solo. "Time in Space" used faded guitar work to compliment the shadowy vocals.

A climbing drum beat helps launch the song into its distortion phase. Guitarist Jeff Piper kicks in his phaser effect for "Dead Man". The heavy riffs become all-encompassing and gel well with the cleanly picked notes. "Deep End" is dominated by acoustic guitars and dark, trippy vocals. "We Were Young" continues with the acoustic tones, but takes it up a notch with electric licks and powerful vocals.

The Bad
Nothing notable

The Verdict
Dirty Americans don't follow commercial trends, don't follow the latest rock fashions or looks, and don't write simple, uninspiring rock music. Dirty Americans stay true to their classic rock influences on Strange Generation and never let them sound dated or boring. The new classic rock is here.
