5.0 out of 5 stars Clever & great illustrations
Last year, I went to Hawaii and picked up this book for my Godson. I read it before I sent it to him and was enchanted by the story. The illustrations are so well done. Colorful and with humor. I regretted not buying more and went on Amazon to see if they had any for sale and they did! I immediately ordered another one for my nephew. Who loved his book. There is...

1.0 out of 5 stars Pointless story
I like my little girl to read or me read to her stories that will teach her something. This book is pointless.

This story teaches nothing. Its all about a cat who does things he is warned not to do. But the cat does them anyway. He is in several very dangerous situations that deal with life and death and escapes them all but never learns from them.

I...

I regretted not buying more and went on Amazon to see if they had any for sale and they did! I immediately ordered another one for my nephew. Who loved his book. There is another book in the series called Popoki Incredible Adventure at the Volcano. It has been out of print. I check back every so often to see if is available. It now finally back is in print, and I just placed my order today. Can't wait to see what trouble Popoki got himself in to at the Volcano!

5.0 out of 5 stars Popoki is the adventurer in all of us, July 9, 2006
This review is from: The Strange and Terrible Adventures of Popoki, the Hawaiian Cat (Library Binding)
I am a grown adult. I did not buy this for a child. I've read it more than once. Call me crazy, but it lifts my spirits and reminds me of my own spunky, independent and free-spirited cat, Fenix. Sometimes I get too serious for my own good and need to remember that playful, creative, ambitious and adventurous part of myself that can be utilized in a positive way.

I think ultimately this is a good story about connections and relationships. Popoki bonded with Leilani, she took care of him and they were a comfort to each other. When they were separated, there was a sense of loss. Pets often represent a very significant friendship for children and adults alike and I think it's positive to encourage that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best EVER for my 6 year old!!!, July 4, 2006
This review is from: The Strange and Terrible Adventures of Popoki, the Hawaiian Cat (Library Binding)
After a visit to Hawaii and a quick decision to buy one of these at a discount store.... we fell in LOVE with the Popoki books! All three that we have have provided terrific entertainment for my 6, now 7 year old. We loved them so much we bought them again, and donated the series to our elementary school library- they are getting checked out constantly! A "must have" in my book!

I like my little girl to read or me read to her stories that will teach her something. This book is pointless.

This story teaches nothing. Its all about a cat who does things he is warned not to do. But the cat does them anyway. He is in several very dangerous situations that deal with life and death and escapes them all but never learns from them.

I dont see the point in this book. If the cat realized that he should listen to others and be careful then I would think it was worth reading. As it is there is no moral to the story and I think that is very wrong. Especially since there would be a big lesson to learn from this book if it did.

If you dont mind your child reading a book that doesnt teach them anything then go ahead and buy them this.

My 6 year old simply adores it. We picked it on a trip to Hawaii a few yeas ago and both fell in love with the character. Text and illustrations are superb and vibrant.
