Editorial Reviews

Subtitled - The Complete Singles. Known as The 'Dutch' Outsiders (to save confusion with the U.S. group of the same name), from 1965-1969 The Outsiders ruled the R&B/Psych beat roost, a big hit in Europe & equally in the U.S. where they sold 2 million records. Here are their complete singles. Leader Wally Tax is still releasing new albums today, his latest on Virgin in Holland, & has helped with the sleeve notes. The package is licensed from EMI Holland & the band. This release in the Bam Caruso series is packaged by Phil Smee with plenty of photos & memorabilia. This is the first ever complete collection of their singles & has been remastered from original tapes. 24 tracks. RMP. 2002.

This compilation of all the Dutch Outsiders Material is great. You Mistreat me is early beat punk at its best while Im Only Trying is great early psychedelia. The aren't any weak tunes on this comp and if you like the rolling stones, pretty things, or Love this is highly recommended. The 1960's owned rock music and unknown bands like this prove that distinction. Modern Rock bands today can hardly hold a candle to this and lack the melodic invention of the Outsiders. Lying All The Time is classic folk rock easily the equal of anything off the byrds first album. Also recommend is C.Q. by the outsiders from 1968 and their first album which contains some of these songs. C.Q. is one of the finest psychedelic albums ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outsiders - 'Strange Things Are Happening' (RPM Records), August 21, 2006
This review is from: Strange Things Are Happening (Audio CD)
Excellent 24 track compilation of this surperb psychedelic Dutch band. Each tune was a single sometime between 1965-69. These guys are NOT to be confused with a U.S. band from the same era of the same name. Cuts that make this CD a true keeper are "Sun's Going Down", the tripping "Feel Like I Wanted To Cry", "Keep On Trying", the familiar sounding "Touch" and "Ballad Of John B". This is yet ANOTHER band I've heard at least one or two tracks on the Rhino release of 'Original Artyfacts: Nuggets II' 4-CD box set.Should appeal to fans of Pretty Things,Q65,early Beatles,Creation and The Action.A must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem, July 14, 2006
This review is from: Strange Things Are Happening (Audio CD)
The Dutch Outsiders are at the top of the class in the Freakbeat scene, along with countrymen Shocking Blue and Q65. Whether they are rocking it up, as on "Touch" or "That's Your Problem," or going jangly psychedelic, as on "Sun's Going Down" and "Lying All the Time," this is a band that has power, drive, and skills. This is an excellent collection for anyone who is interested in this band and would like to have the best of their stuff compiled on one cd. I wish their song "Filthy Rich," one of my faves Outsiders tracks, was on this collection, but this is a singles compilation and that must not have been a single. Every song is good, some are great.
