A refreshing taste of the 70's,

This review is from: Strange Traffic of Dreams (Audio CD)
I loved it! Just the perfect kinda CD to have on and hang out on a nice weekend morning, or at least the kinda sounds to make you think so. This is a rare, reclusive, overly creative half-cousin to rock & roll that I really like, and maybe too rare these days. It has a certain playfulness to it, much like Buckingham's stuff, right down to the fuzzy guitar waa waa waa-ing in the background. Also, they've done a fine job of producing/presenting their sounds, more than you'd expect from a 10-man band much less a 3-man. Whereas most alterna-schtick seeks to beat you down with angst and scrape out your eardrums with a rusty spoon, the focus here is finesse. The lyrics seem to venture into that as yet unexplored territory by cookie cutter wail-types BEYOND how much life sucks, and self deprecation. It has a quirky little intelligence to it, maybe Pink Floyd meets Herman's Hermits. And as to exactly what their sound is, they do have an Allan Parsons Project feel to them, but they run the full gamut of styles, including totally weird dream 'soundtracks', an idea that most bands just don't understand any more - variety.
