5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of a difficult topic - and creepy, too.
Like a couple of other reviewers, this book came into my hands around the age of ten. What is it about that age? I think perhaps it's an age where you're beyond tales of talking animals, but not yet ready for 'serious' books. As it did for the other reviewers, 'Strange Creatures from Time and Space' started me on a life-long interest in the unusual and unexplained...

i found this book in reprinted form in my local library a few years back, and was a little disappointed to re read what i remembered so vividly as a scary and impossible to put down tome. i was surprised at how little actual research was done other than relating purely anecdotal material, although i guess with such topics as mothmen and ufo's, it's hard to always have...

Like a couple of other reviewers, this book came into my hands around the age of ten. What is it about that age? I think perhaps it's an age where you're beyond tales of talking animals, but not yet ready for 'serious' books. As it did for the other reviewers, 'Strange Creatures from Time and Space' started me on a life-long interest in the unusual and unexplained.
The book covers strange phenomena from around the planet, throughout history. It includes not just UFO's, but Mothman, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, as well as other odd creatures and events. Mr. Keel knits these disparate topics together and so becomes one of the creators of study of the paranormal, as viewers of 'The X-Files' would recognize it.
The book leaves you wanting more on certain subjects, but as an introduction it's outstanding. Let me put it this way - if you don't enjoy this book, don't bother reading any others on this topic because you're obviously not interested in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive book on everything unexplained, September 6, 2000
This review is from: Strange creatures from time & space
I recommend this book to every curious person I know. I even try to work it in (2 or 3 times annually) to the sports (!) column I write weekly.

"Strange Creatures From Time and Space" is the most intriguing book I've ever read. I first became acquainted with it when in high school and have thought about it thousands of times in the decades since.

If you get one John A. Keel book (which is a mistake; grab "The Mothman Prophesies" too!), get "Strange Creatures From Time and Space."

And lock the door...watch out for those creepy, unknown, REAL(?) creatures!

in the 30 years of reading on this subject, this book has without a doubt been the best book of it's kind that I've come across.I got this book when it was a relatively recent print and it addresses so much that still is not given much attention to even so many years later.A lot of this info is only available in this book.If you can find it,buy it.At the very least try to read it at least once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unforgetable, November 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Strange creatures from time & space
I first read this book over 25 years ago when I was about 10, under my covers with a flashlight...I didn't want to come out because the world was now a scary place. This book was the most memorable book I have ever read, I still have shivers down my spine remembering stories of UFO's, Bigfoot, and of course West Virginia's Mothman and more! These stories are written in such a way that I am to this day uncertain if they are real or not. This is a very impressionable book that I will never forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars The beginnings of a journey, November 26, 2001
This review is from: Strange creatures from time & space
I read this book when I was 10 years old and it launched me on a path I wouldn't have expected. After reading this book, I became engrossed in anything to do with the weird and unusual. I am the Director of the Texas Bigfoot Research Center and we investigate Bigfoot sightings in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas & Louisiana.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Childhood Book, October 23, 2010
This review is from: Strange creatures from time & space
Like the previous commenters here, I first enjoyed this book when I was very young. The paperback was filled with cases of Sasquatch, dark animals, men in black. The premise was that these were interdimensional, since they appeared and disappeared instanteously, yet left physical traces. I also found that the stories were anecdotal, much lacking in actual research. However, when I was in my early teens that didn't seem to matter much. Interesting to note, this book was way ahead of its time with such topics as, "Men in Black" (MIB) and the use of interdimensionality as a hypothesis for the supernatural. This book, along with my few surviving keepsakes of that time, gave me endless peeks into the unknown. The book had a beautiful cover, illustrated by Frank Frazetta.

3.0 out of 5 stars scared the bejeesus out of me at 12, March 6, 2009

i found this book in reprinted form in my local library a few years back, and was a little disappointed to re read what i remembered so vividly as a scary and impossible to put down tome. i was surprised at how little actual research was done other than relating purely anecdotal material, although i guess with such topics as mothmen and ufo's, it's hard to always have a camera on hand at just the right time to prove your story. plus, the rather ham fisted writing style of mr. keel, coupled with stories that tend to meander from their subject, takes away from what could have been a more compelling read in another writer's hands. still, the interest it evoked for the unknown then (and today) cannot be denied. more interesting as a meditation of what might be out there than a document of hard facts, this collection of stories definitely gets the ball rolling in provocative way when it comes to the paranormal.
