Book Description

Sebastian has feelings he cannot reveal, while Mashine, his roommate, has a secret she cannot hide. As they both search for comfort—Sebastian in a possibly-deluded quest for love; Mashine in the company of her unconventional friends, harboring the same impossible secret she is—they are ultimately forced to protect themselves from the same threat: the people who know what Mashine is, who want to punish her for it. People who might be something even worse, who have had a grip on the minds and lives of humanity for Centuries, but who have finally found a group of people not just able to see through their veil, but more than willing to tear it apart.

"The trick to writing, he figures - the same as the trick to being a good friend, or being worth loving - is to be as honest as possible..." - Strange, Fredrick James

Fredrick James has an exquisite ability to summarize every feeling that we all have ever felt within his story of supernatural happenings. The story itself is entertaining and contains a strong sense of forward momentum, but it is the honesty achieved in this book and the beautiful writing that will resonate with readers. For anyone who has experienced loneliness, heartbreak, depression, anxiety, or a sense of happiness in the briefest of moments, will see a reflection of themselves within these characters. The writing, while unconventional, is creative and innovative. This is certainly a book that James wrote for himself, and that is important; it is honest, vulnerable, and beautiful. I'm not saying it is perfect in any way, and if you don't come into it with an open mind and a sense of what it all stands for, you won't take away an important glimpse into what it means to be human.

4.0 out of 5 stars This guy has talent. Read Him! November 4, 2012

I actually hate scary books or movies, but this book is worth the read. It was so creepy, esp. in the beginning, that I could only read brief passages. Like King's THE SHINING, there is a great story here, so much better than zombie or vampire type stuff that I hear is popular. Plus, the guy can write, so you don't have to endure mind numbing prose just to enjoy the story. A self published book that deserves some attention. After all guys like Stephen King wont always be here to scare us. What happens in this book is just "STRANGE..."
