Best "never heard of" band you'll ever hear, February 12, 2008
This review is from: Stranger in My Hometown (Audio CD)
I first "met" the George Boone Blues Band when sent on a mission to hear, then write about them in 'Bluesprint' -the Journal of the Northeast Blues Society in 1996... They blew me away. I have to say that every time I ever sat to see these guys, I stayed till we hung the very last cat.
If you like smooth, soulful, and heartfelt 'blues' ranging from the subtle to the emotionally powerful one minute, then transitioning all-the-way to the extremely excitable `can't sit still' stuff the next , THIS is for you. GB is truly one of our nations undiscovered treasures -and living proof that 'there is no justice' when it comes to `notoriety' vs. real, tangible QUALITY in music. Singer, songwriter and MASTER on the guitar, the man has it all. Boone's version of "Dock of the Bay" out-does Otis'... and his guitar sounds like no other; smooth one moment, blazing the next.
My personal fav, " The Meaning of the Blues", is on this 1st and unfortunately, only (-so far) CD... yet this is one smokin' CD start to finish: every cut an original composition worthy of your ear, your money and your time. DO yourself a favor,.. grab one while you can; it will demand you stop whatever you are doing and listen -right now.
Powerful stuff. But watch out; it's addictive.
