This was another wonderful book from Lois Duncan!!! It is haunting and thrilling both at the same time. It had a lot of twists and turns, although a few of them were a little predictable.

Stranger With My Face is about Laurie, a pretty high schooler, who is just beginning to gain popularity. She has a popular boyfriend and is about to go to a end-of-the-summer party with him that evening. Unfortunately she gets a 24 hour bug which forced her to stay home. The next day at school everyone insists they saw her out on the beach with another guy, but she wasn't! Soon after all this the story becomes more fast paced as she soon discovers there is someone else with her face who seems to be everywhere. At first Laurie wants to learn more about this girl who she finds out is her sister. She wants to become closer to her and be a real friend to her, but soon Laurie finds out the true evil intentions of her twin. Her own parents won't listen to Laurie when she tries to tell them about what all is happening to her. Her 2 friends believe her and her other sister, who is 8, does too, but is will cost them. Slowly the evil twin begins to eliminate the only 3 believers. The twin then begins to take over Laurie's life.

This book was really good and I definitely recommend it to any of Lois Duncan's many fans. It helps you to realize that it doesn't matter what you look like. READ THIS CREEPY BOOK!!!:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Supernatural Thriller, April 7, 2000
few writers spook me like Duncan does. Stranger with my Face was the first book of hers I read. Although the actual plot doesn't thrill, its the depth of the bad character's evilness and the manipulating game she plays on the main character that really makes this story good. Also, there is romance, family bonding and loyalty among friends that makes this book even better. If you like romance, spooky thrillers and happy endings, I recommend this book highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful and full of mystery, March 22, 2004
A Kid's Review
Stranger with my Face is about a seventeen year old Navajo girl named Laurie who was adopted at birth by a loving family. She is popular and very kind. Little does she know that she had a twin. Lia, her twin, appears in places by astral projecting creating the illusion that Laurie is where she isn't. Through the story, Lia tries to mess up her twin's friendships, relation ships, and finally her whole life. During this ordeal, Laurie meets new friends who help her through everything when her other friend wouldn't even believe her. Laurie not only sloves a mystery, but she finds her true self and her backround. She also learns the valuble lesson of friendship.
I would definately recomend this book to teens. Those who like mystery and suspense would like it as well as those who don't like to read. This book will get you hooked for sure! Lois Duncan writes it so you get sucked in within the first chapter. Try it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Must Read!, January 11, 2004
A Kid's Review
I read the book Stranger With My Face for my independent reading project in my English class. It is a fiction book by Lois Duncan. Some of the themes were horror a lot of mystery. Stranger With My Face is about a girl named Laurie Stratton. Laurie is adopted and later finds out that she has a twin sister named Lia who was seperated from her at birth. Throughout the book, after meeting Lia, weird things start happening. Lia tries to take over Lauries' life by taking over her body through astral-projection, and her friends and family start claiming they're seeing her in places she hasn't been and doing things she isn't. Laurie has to figure out how to stop Lia and keep her from ruining her life.
I was very interested in this book because it kept me wanting to read more and more. The first few chapters were a little slow but after that it just pulled me in and kept me enticed for the rest of the story. I would recommend this book to teenagers because they might be able to relate to Lauries character better than younger kids. I would also recommend it to anyone who likes to be scared from what they read because it deffinatly creeped me out a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC, OUTSTANDING, LOIS DUNCAN HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!, March 10, 2002

An 11-year old reader (Somewhere in this world!) - See all my reviews
This book was the second book I have ever read that was written by Lois Duncan, and I loved it!!! It has mystery and horror all mixed into one story. I recommend this book to those who love mystery and horror books, but if you get scared easily I suggest you don't read this book. The only part of this book that was dull was the first few chapters. All the rest was REALLY exciting.
This book is about a girl named Laurie who finds out that she is adopted and has a twin sister named Lia. Lia at first scares Laurie, but soon Laurie wants to be Lia's friend. But, then weird things start happening. Laurie's best friend is found unconsious in the park, and Laurie's boyfriend is missing. Is this all Lia's doing, has she turned evil. Is Lia starting to take over Laurie's life. You will have to read this book in order to find out!

A Kid's Review
Stranger with my face
Stranger with my face is by Lois Duncan. This book is a real thriller! It's about this girl named Laurie who sees herself, but, it isn't really her. When she first encounters this, it was her former boyfriend who claims he had seen her on the beach, but, it couldn't be her because she was at home sick. The second time she encounters this, her dad claims he had seen her go to her room, but, she really was at school. When Laurie finally comes face to face with this imposter, she sees herself in the mirror, but the Laurie in the mirror had her mouth open while smiling but, Laurie wasn't really smiling nor had her mouth open! Therefore, Laurie named that look alike "mirror girl". Throughout the story Laurie finds out that she was adopted from adopted Mom and Dad and she had a twin named Lia. She also discovers she is Navajo and she can use astral projection. Astral projection is when you can leave your mortal body with your soul and go around the world using your soul. But, there is something different about Lia... she's evil!
I like this book because it's a book you can't put down but, keep reading it. I'd recommend this book to any one who likes thrillers. This book is not prolonging nor is it a snore; it's a book you'll love to read! If you want to know why Lia is evil then I suggest you read the book for yourself to discover what Lia's plan really is..!

3.0 out of 5 stars this book is........, April 5, 2004
A Kid's Review
This book is really good but sad because a lot of people get hurt - not just, physical but emotional too. Some parts you can tell it is fiction because you know it would never happen. Like when Laurie, the main character astral projects. Astral projecting is when she some how projects her sprit out of the body and travels to anywhere at any time without really leaving her bedroom. When she does this she is sort of like a ghost because no one can see her. Great for girls ages 11-18.

This book is about a girl named Laurie. She lives on a small island off of New England's coast. She has a loving family, friends and a boyfriend. When she was sick and couldn't go to a party, her boyfriend saw her on the beach. But that was impossible. She was sick in bed all day. When she was at school, her dad said he saw her go to her room but that couldn't have happened, either. Her friends, brother and sister said they saw her on the dangerous rocks outside her house but she wasn't really there. How could all these people say they saw her when she wasn't there? On top of all that, she as been hearing voices when she goes to sleep.

Where are all the vioces coming from? Who is really on the beach, at her house, and on the rocks? Oh go ahead and read "Stranger With My Face" to find out.

4.0 out of 5 stars {:O), December 11, 2000

Stranger With My Face, is highly interesting and should be read by all Lois Duncan fans around. It is an interesting book if you are into a more far fetched sort of environment. The book deals with things like "astral projection" which is having the capability of placing yourself in another location when so desired. The main character, Lori Stratton, lives at the Cliff House on the northern part of Brighton Island. Lia is Lori's twin sister that was separated from Lori at birth and can travel places through the power of astral projection. Lia is the main cause of the problems happening in the story. Lia begins to appear to Lourie's friends causing problems of all kinds, like putting Lourie's friend, Helen in a coma, which in turn allows Lourie to know that there is an impostor posing as her. Lourie learns that she had a twin sister who was sperarated from her at birth and also begins to learn how to use astral projection. She projects herself to Lia's house to find that Lia had killed her sister by making a horse that she was riding on, land on top of her along with other things about Lia and the story continues. The book is enjoyable but there could have been a better ending. This is why the book will get a 4 star rating. If you like other Lois Duncan classics, you will enjoy Stranger With My Face.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and well-written, but somewhat irresponsible, May 2, 1997
By A Customer
I first read this book several years ago, and through it, became interested in Astral Projection. I understand that this book is horror/fiction, however, certain aspects of this story are not only impossible, but continue to perpetuate myths about Astral Projection. This book actually winds up planting more seeds of fear than it does providing sound information about the art of Astral Travel. For instance, possession of one's body by another spirit while Astral Travelling is impossible. It is obvious that Ms. Duncan is well-read about Astral Projection, which makes me curious as to why she inadvertently scares people away from this experience. Overall, though, the descriptions, characters, and storyline were very good, and it is a memorable, haunting book
