The Dance Anthem Of 2001....,
By "rpeppin" (Edmonton, AB, Canada Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stranger in My House (Audio CD)
After 2 long months of anticipation, Elecktra Records have finally decided to issue a maxi single for this amazing song and boy oh boy what a maxi single this is. Strictly on airplay alone this song quickly made it to the top 10 on The R&B Billboard charts and soon after it spent 2 weeks #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts. The Maxi CD single contains all the remixes that were available on the 12" Vinyl Record as well as the music video.Stranger in My House [CD Maxi] (2001) Catalog #67180 1. Thunderpuss Club Mix 2. Album Version 3. HQ2 Club Mix 4. Maurice's Club Anthem 5. So So Def Remix 6. Thunderpuss Radio Version 7. HQ2 Radio Mix 8. Maurice's Club Radio Mix 9. HQ2 Club Mix Acapella 10. *Bonus* Stranger In My House Video Album Version - An amazing sultry R&B ballad that only master producer Shep Crawford could create. He is the same man responsible for the R&B anthem by Deborah Cox "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here" Tamia's vocals are well nourished in this song displaying the soul/sensual vocal powers of Whitney Houston with a range like Mariah Carey. So So Def Remix Featuring. Jermaine Dupri - A totally new version of this song! Tamia stepped back in the studio with Super Producer Extrodinare Jermaine Dupri churning this Ballad into a thumpin Hip Hop version! Thunderpuss Club Mix - Well this was the mix that made the song #1 on the dance charts. It is quite different from the typical Tribal/House beats Thunderpuss usually infuse into their mixes. Instead they inject this track with a killer NYC late night trance sound. This mix is definately the highlight of the maxi single, and the one that you are hearing all over the place. HQ2 Club Mix - A typical Boom Boom, Thump, Thump sound you are used to hearing from Hex Hector & Mac Quayle. This mix was one of the first mixes completed for this song and introduced Tamia to circuit city. It sounds similar to the remix Hex & Mac did for Whitney's "I Learned From The Best" so you know it's hot! Maurice's Club Anthem - This man is the king of House/Retro. He is the one responsible for all of Destiny's Child dance mixes. This is a very different change however from his usual work. Backing away from his Disco/Retro sounds he uses a sound that is almost similar to the old Thunderpuss beats. Think of the "Digital Black N Groove Mix" he did for DC's "Bills, Bills, Bills" Overall this CD is worth every penny is probably one of the hottest dance songs of 2001.

Not A Stranger Anymore,

This one of the best R&B ballads to show up this year. Tamia's smooth voice transforms what could be a simple love tune into a smoking emotional ballad. A song about a relationship that is drifting apart, this also has the on fire video, and a catchy upbeat album track called "Un'h...To You". If you like this single, check out the maxi-single, which has mixes that transform this from a slow groove to a full dance anthem.

Tamia should be no stranger to dance fans,

The remixes of ' Stranger in My House' are the best club remixes ever produced - period! The ' Thunderpuss Club Mix' is pure dance heaven, outdoing even their already quite impressive work on Whitney Houston's ' It's Not Right'. The stop-and-go beats typifying the song's bridge are exactly what dance-lovers have come to love about Thunderpuss - thunderooooous! The 'HQ2 Club Mix' is equally enjoyable, though less of a classic moment than, let's say, Melanie C's ' I Turn to You'. The 'Maurice's Club Anthem' is perhaps the only weak mix in the collection, coming off as a pale imitation of the above-mentioned mixes. Considering the lacklustre mixes he did for Destiny Child, this does not come as a surprise. All in all, this is a superb CD.

This song is so good. I first heard of Tamia through this song and I immediately loved it after I heard it on Billboard Radio. Her vocals are powerful and she'll do well in the future.

Tamia - Stranger In My House,
By
This review is from: Stranger in My House (Audio CD)
Okay here's the thing, I don't see how anyone can get LeAnn Rymes & Tamia's voices mixed up, as they are completely different & both sing very different styles of music. Plus, just because they are both from Canada does not mean they have to sound the same! Tamia has a very unique & powerful style as do most R&B/Soul singers and would be more likely to be compared to someone like Deborah Cox or Chante Moore. Anyway, in relation to "Stranger In My House" this is a hot LP which includes some great club mixes and also a So So Def Remix by JD himself, which I always like to see! The song is fantastic both lyrically & vocally but I wouldn't expect anything less from Tamia as she is an extremely talented artist. I would also recommend you pick up the album the song is lifted from "Nu Day" for more of the same plus appearances from the other single "Can't Go For That", Missy Elliott's production and even an appearance from Snoop Dogg. Please also see if you can get your ears on a song from her third album called "Mr.Cool" which features Mario Winans & is definetely one of her best to date. Tamia is a very beautiful and undeniably talented vocalist and I'm glad she's not lowered herself to trying to please the mainstream, prefering to go the way that suits her and us real R&B and Soul fans. Keep it up Tamia we're all rooting for you! PS. What's going on with "Still" or "More" or whatever the new album is called now? I've checked on Elektra's and Tamia's websites and there is a supreme lack of info! Hit me back by e-mail if you know anything anyone!

I first heard the remixes at a club in New Orleans while on vacation. Great dance beats and one song is even slow enough to grove to. Would recommend it highly!!!!
