Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 6-9-Amber and Jamie are part of a group of six high school girls who have designed a Web site with a private chat room that is connected to a Christian youth site. In Portrait of Lies, Jamie, the artist of the group, wants to attend a prestigious art camp, but her single mother cannot afford the tuition. The teen enters a scholarship contest and wins, only to discover that the prize-winning painting was actually a portrait painted by her artist father, which someone entered in her name. Should she tell the truth and accept the consequences? In Stranger Online, someone breaks into their chat room and sends threatening messages to Amber. Could it be her old friend Jake, who wants her to help him cheat in chemistry class? Thinking she can handle the problem alone, she only succeeds in making it worse. Both protagonists are helped by their ever-present faith and trust in God. The girls are lively and energetic and chat about boys, makeup, and school in e-mails inserted throughout. Fans of Rachel Vail's "Friendship Ring" series (Scholastic) will enjoy these titles. There is also an actual Web site that readers can browse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, if somewhat simple, June 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Stranger Online (TodaysGirls.com, No. 1) (Paperback)
At first read, the simplicity and black-and-white of the book is what I noticed, but by the end, the Godly lessons and characters, if not plot, won me over. Plus, I like the website and that there is finally a Christian book series out there that has to do with the Internet!

This review is from: Stranger Online (TodaysGirls.com, No. 1) (Paperback)
This is the first book in a 12-book series about 6 awesome girls of today that have a web site together. In this book, a girl named Amber invents the web site. It's the beginning of a great series for teen & pre-teen girls! Even though they are supposed to be for ages 9-12, I'm 14 and I love them! I have 10 of the 12 books!
