Book Description

March 18, 2009

It's been called the most misunderstood book in history.

Wars have been fought in its name, scandals have been precipitated by it, politics shaped and reshaped at its word. Theologians have both defended and reviled it. Skeptics have done the same. If you are a typical member of the human race, you have often been perplexed by all the fuss surrounding the Bible. The question remains, What does it really say?

Here is a book that explains the greatest of Bible themes clearly and logically. Rather than focusing on one part and missing the whole the author chronologically binds together the entire text into one great universal drama, looking at events from the perspective of those who experienced history in the making. The results are sometimes comical, sometimes frightening but always true to the intent of the text.

When you are done reading it, you may find yourself believing the Book like you never have before. Or you may decide not to. The author's objective approach leaves that decision up to you.

From the Author

In spite of what the Amazon link might tell you, I have not authored a book on Acupressure! Nevertheless, I did write "The Stranger," ...a book for those who have "little to no understanding" of the Bible.

I guess most people want to know "why" a person writes a book. Really it is quite simple. The Bible contains an immense volume of text, and in this hectic age, few people take the time to read it. I felt deeply that the Bible is a book worth understanding. After all, it is the world's best seller, and it talks about life and death... and life after death. I also felt that many are curious as to its content.

To explain the Bible, I took a double-pronged approach:

1. The Reader's Digest approach: I condensed the Bible's content to 300 pages, and focused on its primary message.

2. The mathematical approach: I built from the foundation up-a very simple educational concept! You don't start children in kindergarten by teaching them algebra. Rather, you begin with basic numbers, and move from the simple to the complex. If you skip the fundamentals, even rudimentary algebra is beyond their grasp. It's the same way with the Bible. If you neglect the foundations, your biblical understanding will incorporate some unusual ideas, resulting in the primary message being confused and misunderstood.

The result is a book that makes the Bible's message logical and easy to understand. Whether you believe it or not is up to you. My job was to make it clear. As much as possible, I let the Bible speak for itself, and for that reason it includes over 1100 Bible verses!

I trust you will enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read for those New to the Bible AND those familiar, June 5, 2001
By
Ursie "Ursie" (Central United States) - See all my reviews
This book is one of the most sensible books about the Bible that I have read. It discusses the Bible in chronological order. It begins with the easier concepts. It avoids being overwhelming. Best of all, it draws the whole Bible together -- pointing out the major themes. Yet, although clearly worded, it is not simplistic.

The title refers to Luke 24:13-35, where Jesus himself explains to two disciples, "...beginning with all the Prophets...what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself." This book hopes to do the same for us.

The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus would be a good book to read before attempting a read-through of the whole Bible. (It sure would have helped make my first read-through more sensible!) However, as one who had read through the Bible a few times before reading The Stranger..., it was still a great help in my understanding.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in the Bible, Western Culture, or the Christian faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book that everyone needs to read., February 25, 2006
This book is an excellent book for a survey of the entire Bible. This book is not exhaustive, but it covers the key stories and themes. The book's strength is that it shows the reader that the Bible has one consitent message throughout.

This book is easy to read, but not simplistic. It is not an academic book, but academics can get something from this book as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful teaching resource!, September 13, 2004
This book and its companion workbook are essential tools for learning and teaching the essential truths of the Bible from beginning to end. I have been a Christian all my life, yet I always wanted to have a more complete understanding of the Bible and how both the Old and New Testaments tie directly to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The book is filled with scripture and is supported with effective visual aids. The beginning starts with simple truths and it gets more and more exciting with each chapter.

If you are like me and you want to tell your friends and others about the Bible, yet you're a little nervous about being able to explain it, this is a great book for you!
