I haven't read the book, but the play is very worthwhile. I wanted to say 'fun', which it is, but is also disturbing, hilarious, thought provoking (if you let it), and overall just a really good investment of your time, money and effort to get there (there = Chopin Theater at Division, Milwaukee and Ashland in Chicago, and apparently now also somewhere in New York).
