A great movie for Mothers and Daughters, December 16, 2005
This review is from: Strangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"The performances are as complex as the relationship being explored. Bette Davis returns powerfully. Miss Rowlands is qually impressive."
- The New York Times
This heart-warming tale, simliar in its impact to the later Terms Of Endearment, stars oscar-winner Bette Davis and Gena Rowlands (A Woman Under The Influence) as a cantankerous old widow and her once-rebellious daughter.
When Abigail Mason (Rowlands) returns home after a 20 year absence to her mother (Davis), the uncomfortable relationship between mother and daughter that began early in her childhood reemerges. Lucy further dampens the reunion with characteristic insults and arguments. But, as the summer progresses, a mother's heart begins to to warm, defenses are lowered and mother and daughter finally find themselves closing the gap of years of misunderstandings. But there is still one last hurdle, and their bond, so painfully achieved, is again threatened.
In the moving style of Terms of Endearment, Strangers: The Story Of A Mother And Daughter takes a rare and realistic look at the complex hearts of mothers and daughters...and touches its audience's hearts as well.

One of the Best, April 16, 2009
This review is from: Strangers: The Story of a Mother and Daughter [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a true to life look at the intricate yet powerful relationship of Mothers & daughters. It looks at the love/hate aspects and never goes for the obvious. Two great acting performances by two of the best. Will buy again when it's on DVD
