Awesome for any age, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Strangest of All (Paperback)
I stumbled upon the "Strange" set of books by Frank Edwards as a kid in the midwest, and they made "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" seem quite tame. It contains hundreds of articles, from a paragraph to a page or two, recounting actual people, places and events having super normal or supernatural experiences. One in particular that is typical of this genre (and "haunts" me still) was about a family crypt where several of the occupant's caskets were tossed around numerous times with no sign of entry, and even later with posted guards. I've tried for years to be able to get a copy of one or more of these, for MY children and for myself. Please let me know if they go back into print.

The full spectrum of paranormal phenomena, sometimes Edwards is realistic but most often not, April 4, 2009
Frank Edwards was a master at collecting reports of unusual activity and writing about them. When he stays within or close to the bounds of realism, his points are good, however when he strays into the use of sensationalist remarks, then his points get a bit wacky. In this collection, he stays much closer to the bounds of realism than he does in some of his other books about unusual events. The full spectrum of paranormal phenomena appears in this collection, from people who vanished to answers from beyond the grave to fulfilled prophesies, there is enough here to keep a skeptic active for hours. While some of the events have been proven true and others have been deemed physically possible, the majority is absurd and some have been debunked by people, such as magicians, people who understand how to bunk.

Fond memories of this book, December 10, 2011
I read the book Strangest of All by Frank Edwards when I was very young back in the early 1970s. This was back in the day when most commuter train stations had a small section of paperback books people could select for reading while commuting. Once finished, they would bring them back for others to read. My Mother would always get a book and sometimes would bring it home for me to read when she was finished. I remember being scared by some of the strange stories told by Mr Edwards and I believed they were all true as the title suggested. I recently got a copy of this book for memories sake and reread it. I still enjoyed the book tremendously, but now I do have a different perspective as I read. Mr Edwards' way of research was to collect old newspaper articles and also repeat stories told from others. Some of it is hearsay, and many of the articles were never followed up (either by the original author or Mr Edwards himself). What we get is a Fortean Times type of book in which the evidence presented is dubious at best. This is not to say all the stories in the book are not true, but when one looks at the state of the media back then some are suspect. Many newspapers were prone to exaggeration as a way to sell more copies. Many of the articles were written in a time of no radio or other methods of entertainment, so the newspaper more than happily provided for it. That would mean some of the articles could of been down right hoaxes. Stories of huge gigantic human skeletons, ghost stories, mysterious vanishings pop up and seem valid. But in the case of the giant skeletons, where are they now? This would be a rather large discovery for it to just be mentioned in one article. The main idea of this book is to be entertained, and I was brought back to my childhood which was an added bonus. While not as researched as many modern books on the same subjects today, this one will take the reader back to the days of pre internet research.
