4.0 out of 5 stars Stanley's Back, January 4, 2012

This review is from: Strangler (Stanley Hastings Mystery, #4) (Kindle Edition)
Stanley Hastings isn't a "real" private investigator - he works for an ambulance-chasing attorney, signing up clients who've been injured and taking pictures of cracked sidewalks or litter-strewn stairs. He certainly isn't prepared to find the potential client he came to sign up strangled to death or to find himself a suspect! More potential clients turn up murdered and though Stanley is removed from the suspects list, his livelihood is still in jeopardy. Someone is killing off potential clients of Rosenberg & Stone and if word gets out, it certainly won't be good for business. The cop in charge is a jerk and Stanley's certain he's on the wrong track. He sets out to find the real killer, clear himself of any suspicions, and save his job. The results are, as usual with Stanley, funny and suspenseful.

Started reading these because I love the puzzle lady series. Now I love Stanley Hastings. He's a private detective that I can relate to. The time period throws me sometime but these are quick, fun reads. No heavy lifting required.

This would be fine for young adults. Since I'm on my 4th book, it keeps to the character of the "author detective". It reminds me of the old "Sgt Friday" tv series with the star narrating in the background.

Retro, Retro, Retro

Clever, witty, funny and absorbing. I hardly stopped smiling and occasionally even laughed out loud. A genius in his genre.
