"...the bigger pile of (shit) you come up with!"The above is a quote by SLAUGHTER producer Brian Taylor, the man behind such other classic Canadian acts like SACRIFICE and RAZOR. STRAPPADO really defines the word classic. For years I was in a trashmetal outfit and besides covering NOCTURNAL HELL these guys were such a big influence on us, with their simplistic but o so effective riffing and really bonecrushing (alas a bit dated) lyrics. Their songs still send chills down my spine when hearing them. This comes highly recommended to al extreme metalfans. Modern day posers who worshipp acts like CRADLE OF FILTH and DIMMU BORGIR should wake up and acknowledge what kind of groundbreaking work acts like SLAUGHTER and for example HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST have done for the genre. This will eat you alive!

THIS is the real Slaughter! Gloriously raw and primitive, after a few listens you will realize just how heavy and extreme this album must have sounded at the time (1986). Comparable to Hellhammer (and early Celtic Frost), this band plays barbaric thrash, with plenty of crushing grooves thrown in for good measure. Along with acts like Possessed, this band would go on to become an early prototype for what would eventually be known as death metal. Awesome! You definitely need this if you are into old school thrash or death. Make way for the Incinerator!!!

Classic Canadian band,

Don't be confused with the name Slaughter. THIS Slaughter lived-up to the name; grinding guitars, punk-influenced vocals, and one hell of a drummer. I've just recently heard of this band and decided to do my Metal homework on them, and I must say this is one classic Canadian Metal band. Slaughter were ahead of their time wether it was downtuning their guitars, injecting old-school Punk into their music, or having somewhat silly lyrics speaking against Nuclear Missles. Slaughter never really made their dent on the world outside of the Underground Metal community, but their influence are strong in modern bands such as Napalm Death, and a whole lot more. If you like classic 80's Metal with balls, get "Strappado". Also check out other innovative Heavy bands such as Pentagram from Chile, Sarcofago, Repulsion, Vulcano, and Warhammer.

A very very powerful album, really simple riffs, but they grind so hard, you'll be banging your head to every one, the live tracks on this CD were a joke though-sound was terrible + it was as if they were playing to an uncaptive audience of 3 poeple in a garage, still, I didn't buy it for the live stuff, so I was still really impresed with it overall, the bonus tracks are excellent--a great value buy--get it before it disappears into history!!!!!!

It's the late 80's. The debut album of Canada's death metal act Slaughter hits the market. Apparently made from scratch and with an estimated budget of 3 dollars, "Strappado" is a no-holds-barred slam-bam-bang-in-your-face piece of noise terror. Deep grunging vocals chanting the darkness of the woods, the coldness of the grave, the endlessness of wet, creeping nightmares.
Tight drums and equal guitar riffs perform together a deranged, no-nosense, teeth grinding symphony and the guiding songlines are both blood oozing, slime dripping and still with a touch of dark poetry: "Bury my face / in the stench of death / kissing the lips / without any breath." The master tapes of the album disappeared but were found years later and now the cd is here to be taken. There has never been an official follow-up to the debut. A digi-pack called "Paranormal / Not dead yet" was released later on but this collection of all-too-underground-sounding songs doesn't impress anywere except maybe for the closing four live songs, taken from the "Strappado" album. Even more recent is the barely released album "F**k of Death", dated 1986; it's a terrible sounding jamm session with the late Death-frontman Chuck Chuldiner who gets to perform the opening song "Evil dead" from his own debut album "Scream, bloody gore". What ever will be released from Slaughter in the near future from material out of the long lost past, "Strappado" is still very much in your face. Just one thing: play it loud!

A Truly Awful Work!! Don't Waste Your Money!,

When reading the previous reveiws of this album, I simply couldn't believe that those people were listening to the same cd!! This thing is the worst peice of trash put out in the 80s. I remember being a young thrasher back then, and I loved to impress my weaker brethren (who still thought Judas Priest was hard!) by being the first in the neighborhood to turn them on to all the cutting edge, dark bands like Slayer and Celtic Frost. Always willing to buy new thrash records on a hunch that they may be excellent (Sacrifice-Torment in Fire; Blind Illusion-The Sane Asylum), I bought this record at an underground vinyl shop. I thought it looked like it could be really good; but when I put it on the turntable, I simply couldn't beleive that such crapulous sounds were coming off this record, and weren't the result of some malfunction in my stereo equipment! The songs were awful primarily due to they're possessing the ugliest, sloppiest, most simplistic guitar work I have ever heard. Don't think for a minute I don't appreciate simplicity or the aesthetic of cheap production. I loved everything by Bathory, and some years later, Darkthrone. But those bands actually had musical skill which Slaughter is completely lacking on this truly horrible disc. For really great underground 80s thrash, get Sacrifice or Blind Illusion and don't waste your time or $$ on this worthless mess of a record. If you don't listen and do buy this, chances are your copy of this junk will end up the same way mine did so many years ago...smashed to bits and thrown in the garbage can!
